Me too! Pretty amazing game I think. I've always played pretty linear games, and FFXIII did it so beautifully I could happily ignore it's few flaws.
A sidenote: I really don't like any other Final Fantasy very much. I don't really know why. But it seems that everything people hated about FFXIII, I loved.

I hated 7. Only one I still play is 8. Granted, there are some flaws with it, but it's pretty well rounded, atleast to me.

I only really played tactics advance and TA2, so I decided that for me, tactics advance was the best, especially the way that you could customize your own world, screwing over geographical rules such as "you cant put rivers and a swamp right in the middle of a bunch of deserts". also liked the laws system, and the lawless zones.

The one that didn't have a ridiculously over-the-top storyline with unlikable, paperthin characters.

Wait...

Dirge of Cerberus - the game that made me enjoy shooters...for a time.

Somebody actually liked Dirge? Wow, I'm amazed...

FF:Tactics is king.
FFX-2 and FFVIII are both very good (and misunderstood).
FFIV and FFVII also get honorable mentions.

Worst FF game is Mystic Quest
[sub](and I would say Dirge, but it may offend the quoted poster - but it is awful)[/sub]
Yes, actually...my friend loaned it to me and I found it wholly enjoyable for the time I was allowed to play it. I think it was a noticeable lack of the blonde spiky-haired ponce that helped.

Mine would have to VIII. It was what brought me into the series and I think it might have been one of my first rpgs. And I don't know if it's just me, but I really liked the flexibility of the junction system.

P.S. gunblade = one of the most awesome weapons ever.

5 and 6 are the only truly good ones. Some of the others are decent, but everything since 6 (excluding 12) has been awful more often than not. Don't even get me started on all the remakes that actually made the games worse, what Square did to Star Ocean, or Kingdom Hearts. Dragon Quest is their only good series now, and only because they swallowed up Enix with their superior shut-in otaku wanking skills.

FF 6 > 5 > 12 > 7 > 13 > 10 > 1 > 4 > 9 > 2 > 3 > 10-2 > 8

Off the top of my head I will say VI is my favourite, but I'm certain that this is heavily influenced by Aria di Mezzo Carattere. And Celes. (Crap, I'm thinking I've reached total fanboy status concerning her, as so far her exclusion is the only reason I've yet to touch Dissidia.)

IX is an honorable mention, if only for the damn curse I have. I've yet to finish it as every time I hit the 4th disc something happens that requires me to pack up and move, only to completely forget where I am in the story or how to use the characters in battle that I start up again from disc one. It's happened 5 times now.

I'm behind in my Final Fantasy playing due to not having the appropriate consoles to play them on, but I've played 4,5,6,7,8,9,X,X-2 and XII. I am currently working on FF1 on the iPhone.

FF6 was the first one I played and is still my favorite.

I rather liked Dirge, too. I think they failed hard on the character designs, the inclusion of Gackt, and the story...but I rather liked the game mechanics. Also, the soundtrack was damn good. ^^

My favorites would have to be 1, 6, and 7. While Kefka and Ultros made it a lot of fun, I just find myself always coming back to 7, however. Perhaps not the best gameplay, but the story, soundtrack, and whole universal background is pure gold which I have yet to find to resonate with me in another Final Fantasy.
