Advanced Wars. My brother and I passed the time on endless car rides playing those games. He was amazing at using airplanes and boats and I could swarm any base with dozens of infantry filled APCs. I love those games!

Another vote for the Etrian Odyssey series. They're fantastic games, if you're at all interested in more old school RPGs. They're easily some of my favourite games, not just favourite DS games, but games in general.

Another favourite of mine that's similar to the EO games is The Dark Spire, also for the DS. The EO series is more Japanese in style, where as The Dark Spire is more like an 80s WRPG. It also has a great art style and sountrack.

And if dungeon crawlers aren't your thing, Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective is really good. It's kind of like a puzzle/adventure game with a lot of fun characters and a really interesting story.

i am not a handheld gamer, but if you would have asked me this when i played on the N-Gage, i would say Pandemonium.

thinking of replaying that shit right now actually.

The Castlevania Ds trilogy,YMMV on which is best,most people prefer DOS,but i can't stand how Soma moves like a slug,and all of them have high replay value

The pokemon mystery dungeons are pretty great too,i got more than 100 hours on the second game

Fighters are great on the vita,Guilty Gear XXAC+ for the psp works for it,it is dirt cheap,and it has a bigger screen than the actual vita version they just released,Blazblue Cs Extend is there too,but i wouldn't reccomend buying it since Chrono Phantasma is on the way
