favourite horror film

I love The Grudge actually. Because that is the type of horror film that plays with your mind. You do not get a lot of sudden burst of emotions when something gory appears on screen but still it creeps the hell out of you because it makes you think that could also happen to you when the night comes or when you suddenly wake up in the wee hours of the morning.

OOH yes! I love The Grudge!! That movie freaked me out in like, all the best ways possible.

I have to close my closet doors before going to bed for fear that Kayako may crawl out and snap my neck :3

Also, I have a black cat that likes to hide under my bed for hours on end and jump on me in the middle of the night. I pretty much have a heart attack every time.

Hmm I saw [Rec 2] at Fright Fest (Glasgow) and thought it was pretty brilliant. Frozen is also a favourite of mine!

hmmm i'd have to say that Storm of the Century is among my faviorite. Hellraiser Infreno is another good one and so is The Thing (80's version)

Of all time? Alone in the Dark. No, I don't mean that 2005 train wreck. I mean the 1982 one starring Donald Pleasance, Marin Landau, Dwight Schultz, and other well known B movie character actors. The movie is not flawless, but the first 30 minutes was so good that I was willing to put with the crap the final hour of it.

Of the last year, Donner Pass is right up there. It is a well paced horror movie that reminds me of 80s and early 90s horror. The plot is formula, and you can pretty much tell who is the monster about 15 minutes after you meet him. What sold it for me was the dialog and character development. The 4 characters you meet at the beginning of the movie has completely developed story arcs by the end of it. The movie does a goods job of making me feel something for the characters.

The Strangers is probably the scariest one I've seen though. Session 9 was pretty scary too though.

While The Shining scared me the most, my vote goes to The Thing because of...well the thing itself. Don't get me wrong, I love both it's just that I'm a sucker for sci-fi.

Yes I do happen to like horror films in a cold setting. Except AVP.

Is that the Japanese films with the bloke "auditioning" for a new wife?

If it is the only scene that ever sticks in my mind about that films is the one with the wire and the feet. And the smile she has while... well I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it.

The Thing is top for me for atmosphere.
The Exorcist is top because of mood and sound, while a bit dated now, still classic.
The Shining because of ol' Jackie boy.
Silence of the Lambs because its such a great thriller.
Alien..because its awesome.
Night/Dawn of the living dead, both the best zombie movies.
Evil Dead 1, Scary ass movie.

28 Days Later. Awesome soundtrack, intense atmosphere, scary monsters, and above all else, the decency to remember that we care more about these characters if they have a chance to escape and survive.

Yus... 28 Days Later... one of the few movies to actually create a feeling of intense solitude and loneliness, while still retaining a sense of constant soul crushing hostility... without that translating to boring and nothingness like other movies who have yet to grasp the concept...

Too bad the sequel sucked...<.<

Let Me In is my favorite. I haven't seen the original Swedish version, but whatever quality that movie has shouldn't diminish Let Me In's greatness

You really should see the original Swedish version though.

I saw it first and loved it but I was kinda surprised at the quality of Let Me In though, even though I do still consider it a waste of time and an insult to the creators of the original.

Coincidentally, my favourite horror film would probably be Let The Right One In, but to be honest i'm not even sure I can label it as one as it isn't particularly scary, it just has elements of horror. (It's my favourite film ever though.)

I think REC would probably be my favourite then I guess... or 28 Days Later.

That scene and when you first see the burlap sack, and pretty anything to deal with what's in it. God that movie was creepy.

Most of the original horror movies from the east that got a horrible remake in the states are pretty good. Premonition, Ju-on (The Grudge), A Tale of Two Sisters (The Uninvited), The Eye, and One Missed Call are all very good, just not the Hollywood trash remakes.

Pulse is a fucking awesome movie that is both slightly scary and horribly depressing and what Hollywood did to it should require everyone involved in making it to be shot in the face live on TV along with a lengthy apology sent to the creators of the original.

On this side of the pond though...
Re-Animator, its a bit more silly and less horror, but its tied for my favorite movie ever
Dead Alive (or Braindead outside of the states), John Carpenter's The Thing, Alien, A Nightmare on Elm Street (its remake wasn't horrible), Friday the 13th (its remake.... JASON DOESN'T FUCKING RUN EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER.. assholes)
