I am in one of those moods where I just want to download a bunch of songs (from itunes) and I was wondering what are your favourite songs that maybe haven't got the recognition that they deserve.

Now I literally listen to all types of music from Colin Hay to Lady Gaga to Metallica to Queens of the Stone Age to Daft Punk, so I really do not care what type of songs are mentioned.

I'm thinking that Voltaire and E.S. Posthumus would count.

Voltaire sings a lot of parody, or just plain humorous songs.

E.S. Posthumus has plenty of songs, most of which are instrumental with wonderful latin-type chanting. Their songs are commonly used in movie trailers.

QOTSA: Burn the Witch. Seriously that riff is so catchy and the song is really fun to play on any instrument

Probably "The Glass Prison" by Dream Theater, the opening riff is badass :)

And I know the majority of people on here probably know of DT but I'm on about my friends and people around me

The Cog is Dead - The Death of the Cog

Just heard these guys recently and really liked the strange sound they have, It's basically steam-punk music.

the Doors - Not to Touch the Earth

it's on the same album as Five to One and Hello, I Love You so it's pretty overshadowed by those two, but it's better than either!

Konu's music is about as obscure as it gets without not having released his music at all. It's really too bad.

Also
Pablo Picasso by Citizen Cope. As far as most people are concerned, his only song is Let the Drummer Kick.

I'll second the Voltaire suggestion, he has some catchy tunes.
Posthumus is also a good choice.
waddya know

I'll put up suggestions for mc chris and Mindless Self Indulgence.
Then again, the prior is only lesser-known if you've never turned on [adult swim] in your life, and the latter is...actually sort of prevalent in a strange way.
Either way, YouTube for listening pleasure.

Oltremare, by Ludovico Einaudi. It may not seem like your cup of tea, but give it a chance, and ye shall be rewarded.
Or maybe (and purely because I mentioned them in a post just a moment ago) Pearl Jam, with 'Black':

Featured on a camera advert, it really didn't get the recognition it rightfully needed!

Anything by Dirty Pretty Things, who were always unfairly overshadowed by that other post-Libertines band, Babyshambles, mostly due to Pete Doherty's 'popularity' with the press.

They just write amazingly catchy Brit rock, and anyone interested in post-punk should definitely look into them, even though the Libertines are back together now and everyone's forgotten about DPT.

"Sloppy Drunk" by The Outline has been stuck in my head for ages

damn them for sparking my interest with their song "Shotgun"

and damn Burnout for using it in one of their games...both are really good songs by the way and are my favorite songs ever
