These are really the only metal bands I listen to on a regular basis now. I haven't really followed Iced Earth much recently though.

It's about time someone else posted Blind Guardian.

I don't really "get" Dragonforce? People seriously listen to them? If you're into the power metal, you should probably check out Blind Guardian, Rhapsody (of Fire) or Sonata Arctica.

Anyway, tastes are subjective - and if you like it, it's not really my problem.

The funny thing about all these "favorite metal band" threads is how people who listen to children of bodom, disturbed, slipknot and all the other similar "metal" bands also list Nightwish, when Nightwish is completely different and you can't like BOTH worlds, sorry. And don't give me the excuse "i like a lot of stuff" etc (that makes it even more laughable). Most people just heard Nightwish from little big planet 2 and immediately jumped the band wagon. Also listening to Amaranth doesn't make you a Nightwish fan.

...What? I've been sitting trying to make sense of this post and can't understand your point. People who have varied music tastes don't exist? What? Last time I checked I quite like both Children of Bodom and Nightwish. I also like both Muse and Rotten Sound. Does this make my music taste impossible?

Yes, actually. If you really like the MUSIC, in which Nightwish is leagues away from Children of Bodom, it IS impossible. And, again, listening to Amaranth doesn't mean you like Nightwish.
And i view people who like radically different music genres (for example rap and metal) as just trying to act "cool" without actually looking for any musical value.

Phew, for a second there I thought no one was going to mention Blind Guardian, the fact that it isn't on the first page is grounds for a heresy charge in my honest opinion.

Were you dropped as a child? Some points:

1: Music is subjective. What is it in your mind that makes Nightwise leagues away from Children of Bodom?

2: When the fuck did I mention Amaranthe?

3: I think the people who try to look cool are the elitists who refuse to listen to anything that isn't metal and dismiss it as having no musical value.

4: I listen to both metal(From power metal to grindcore) and rap(Albeit not very often) because I enjoy it. I don't much care about "True musical value" because that's a such an incredibly vague term it's not worth giving a shit about. The music makes me feel good, so I listen to it. I don't rub it in other people's faces to seem more interesting, I just listen to it.

I don't really care what you look for or why you listen to anything, and if you can't tell the difference between Nightwish's music and Bodom's then have fun being smeared with mediocrity. "True musical value" isn't a vague term, you just don't understand anything about music. (And no, i'm not going to sit here trying to explain music theory to you)

And yes, most genres don't have any musical value.

I just mentioned Amaranth, because it's their most popular song and most people who "listen to Nightwish" have listened to that song only.
