San Andreas has the best licensed soundtrack by far, even if Saints Row 2 holds a certain place in my heart for including "For Real" by Okkervil River.

Favourite soundtrack from a game this year would probably be Infamous 2 - really suited the setting and mood.

For all time favourites though, I can't go past the 16 bit Sonics, SMB2: Yoshi's Island, Jazz Jackrabbit and the Donkey Kong Country series.

Lost Odyssey, Jeremy Soule soundtracks, Bastion, Age of Empires 2, Brutal Legend :)P), Bioshock and... Lord of The Rings Online has some of my all time favorite game music. Although, it had a few duds in there as well.

Chrono Trigger for sure. It is incredibly consistent, and manages to strike a nice balance between diversity and a recognizable style. I am also a bit of a whore for 16-bit music in general...

Which is ironic, given that my other favorite soundtracks are those for Shadow of the Colossus and Okami. I also have a good deal of sentimental attachment to Ocarina of Time's soundtrack, and its rendition of the Hyrule Field theme might be my favorite piece of videogame music ever.

For something a little less obvious, what little I've played of Planescape: Torment had some pretty great music. I really need to play more of this game.

I'm going to limit myself to 5 random ones, because I love too many to count.

Warcraft 2.
Final Fantasy 3 through 10.
Bastion.
C&C: Tiberian Dawn.
Super Meat Boy.

Here's a mix of fantastic ones:

The Myst soundtrack wins, but only by a very narrow margin.

Say what you will about gameplay, level design etc, the Original Halo Combat Evovled Soundtrack always has me coming back. the combination of Gregorian Chant, Brazilian drums, and a throaty military Strings section make the Halo anthem awesome, which says nothing of the other great tunes.

a strong second place would have to be the Ocarina of Time soundtrack.

Finally even though I don't consider it the "Soundtrack" I love the 1930's-1950's tunes that were featured in Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas, exposing some of the greats to a younger generation.

Shadow of the Collossus all the way. Suprised no one else has mentioned it.

Honourable mentions go to the Halo series and Devil May Cry.

The Witcher Themes are damn cool.

Feels very European, not extremely bombastic, but incredibly effective at setting tone. And listen to that guitar!

Gears of War. I frickin' loved that game's music. I'm slightly surprised nobody mentioned it before me.

Where to start... I don't really have a favourite, so here goes...
Stalker - the trilogy all boast really, really suitable atmospheric stuff
KOTOR - both games, particularly the first have amazing soundtracks
Dawn of War (not all of it, but stuff like the Eldar Theme in Retribution)
Total Annihilation - the epic orchestral really works in battles
Shogun: Total War - it deserved an award for its soundtrack alone
Rome: Total War - really helped build up the game, especially Arab Winter, that was an epic track.
Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth 2 - yeah technically it doesn't count because its largely, if not all from the films...
The Age of Empires/Age of Mythology series - has had some epic tracks, some of which have been remixed for later games as far as I'm aware
Call of Duty 4 - of all fpses I've ever played, that's got one of the best
Crackdown - that game introduced me to a ton of artists I'd never heard of, but appreciate now
Fallouts 3 and New Vegas - the radio stuff was good, but the actually ambient stuff was even better
Mass Effect - both games again
Ace Combats 4,5,0 and a bit of 6's soundtrack are all epic
And finally Oblivion

Skyrim seems to have an epic soundtrack, but I've yet to play it, mainly because I have exams that must be passed first...
