Does anyone else have a fear of water in videogames?
Is your name Razputin by any chance? :D

The only time it's really scared me is that lake monster in Shadow of the Colossus. When that thing comes after you, Jaws looks laughable in comparison.

I sorta like water in video games, I just don't like how it can kill you sometimes. But when I do swim, I try to go deep down and see what I can find. And if you play Fallout 3, going in the water may be safe. I was once in the water and an enemy was right next to me. He just, swam there, and did nothing but follow me. He attacked when Ieft the water.
Yeah, but in Fallout 3 the water is usually also radioactive.
But not if you
[spoiler/] Activate the Purifier, then one spot of the map is fresh clean water to swim and drink from[/spoiler]

In Spore, I was pleasantly surprised to find my creature could swim. I had visions of swimming off to interesting places, meeting new animals... and eating them...

Anyhoo, off I go... and a friggin' great monster things eats me! That's not fair - the water was clear and my head was above water...

Grrr, water isn't the problem, it's the way it's used by the developers as a barrier and then they feel that gives them leave to put all kinds of horrible monsters in it...

I have a deep water phobia irl and it seems to follow me in games. The latest Tomb Raider made me piss my pants, I had to ask someone else to finish the first level for me. I love when developers are too lazy to make their characters swim.

Sea Hats, Big Octos, and cyclones in Wind Waker.

Normally, I love sailing the big open world, but when any of those three things show up, I remember my fear of sea travel.

I didn't until I tried to save some people in Resistance 2. I got eaten by a Chimera I had never seen before, and it really made me jump.

Yes. My biggest fear in video games is deep water. You never know what's in there. Not to mention you're nearly defenseless, and you're gasping for air.

Big time. Water is bad. Flesh-eating monsters are bad. Flesh eating monsters in water scare me, even in games with very old/cartoony graphics where it is hardly realistic at all. But, I have my reasons for this on a personal level. I don't like water or the creates that live in it.

Guh. I hated that RE4 boss. Plus, I think I know what it was that caused my particular fear.

Damn you Clanker. Damn you to hell!

Well, i'm not scared of water but apparently game characters have a debilitating terror of water and literally try to jump out of it (Prototype) or just dissolve in it (Assassin's Creed).

I see your Clanker and raise you a...

Snacker. That thing had me out of the water in all of my games. Also Ecco the Dolphin on the Dreamcast.

Since I'm older now though, I'm pretty good about hopping in the water in games now.

I have the exact same fear, especially on that Colossus in the lake in SoTC, scared the piss out of me

Half Life 1, Ichthyosaur. That is where all video game water phobias come from.
I think you hit the nail on the bud on that one. It certainly hits home with me at least.

I used to hate videogame water to the point of insanity. I'd delay so many games because of it.
To name a few: Metroid Prime 2 (Bloggs), Banjo Kazooie (Big metal shark and little shark from pirate level), Jak and Daxter (Lurker Sharks), and Half Life (Ichthyosaurs).
Thankfully I've gotten over it, or else I'd never have finished some of my games.

What about the fact that in half of games water means instant death

Kind of left that one out...
