I say they should go back to making JRPGs other then Final Fantasy games like they did during the SNES era, where we saw great classics like Secret of Evermore, Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, & Super Mario RPG.
You must remember that before the ff game's the company had almost gone out of business having nothing to their names but failures, ff was as the name implies the final game they were ever going to make.

They're probably afraid if the stop making them they'll lose all the fortune that came with the title and crash again
Yes yes I'm well aware of that, but keep in mind that the original Final Fantasy was an NES title and that all the examples I listed were SNES titles. They're certainly capable of making good JRPGs, or at least they used to be. I think it's far more likely that they'll crash again if they keep banking all their continued success on the one franchise. I suppose I can't really single them out though, many companies are doing that, Nintendo, Sega, Capacom; hell Capcom's raped MegaMan so hard that he had to lock himself in the bathroom for a month with an industrial sized tube of Preparation-H.

I don't know what to think of this anymore. They keep me holding out on the hope that they might possibly, just maybe, if the stars align, remake it. Another part of me hates how much they dangle the possiblity around and have always had their answer been "maybe" ever since they released the god damn PS3 in the first place.

I can't wait to get my hands on FFXIII, and I thought it was a partial remake anyway, seeing as they aimed lightning to be a female cloud

Personally, I'm not a FF7 fan. I played it all the way through... in 1997. It was good for it's time but I'm inclined to disagree with the fan following it has. I could see a lot of FF7 fans being let down by a HD remake when it doesn't come close to resembling those "perfect memories" they have of the original game.

Perhaps the fact that I had been playing J-RPGs since BEFORE the PlayStation generation has something to do with my indifference about it. For many, it was their first glimpse at such an intricate story and presentation. It sure wasn't mine... then again, I had begun playing video games in general back when you had to still use your imagination to understand what you were looking at.

Also, don't forget, FF7 falls into that era for Square when Hironobu Sakaguchi was still at the helm of all those projects. His FF titles, in particular, have a certain charm and feel that all of the ones made without him lack. He wrote the story for FF7 when his father passed away so he was very distraught. This is why the story touched on so many dark and spiritual undertones. If you were to get a HD Remake of FF7 made by the current Square, you would most likely not be getting the same game at it's core.

I don't get the sudden hate for FFVII... it was an amazing game. We're all entitled to our opinions as to which one is best, and I can understand people who prefer other incredible entries in the franchise, like VI or X. But VII was a great game, and seeing a remake of it would be amazing.
Because people think it's cool to be different and hate things that are popular. Those people tend to still be in High School. I for one, would love to see a FFVII remake, assuming Cloud is his usually charismatic self and not the whiny emo kid Kingdom Hearts and the slew of FFVII spin-offs have turned him into.

I really hope this doesn't happen.

FF7 was probably the second worst next to 12.
Clearly this person has never played FFVIII. Or X-2 for that matter, unless you don't want to count sequels.

Here I am expecting to read about FF13 having a fourth wall braking easter egg in some boss fight and instead there's just more of the good 'ol Square Enix trolling. Silly me.

It will happen. I predict it could be a launch title for their next system, and it will move a ton of units. If they wait any longer than that, a lot of people from around my generation who really want it will have moved on at that point.

8 was my second favorite next to 10.

And I really liked X-2.

X was amazing. I wouldn't ever say that 8 was horrible, but it's definitely one of the worst. Good story, but the junction system was terrible. Also, I just really hate Irvine, worst FF Character in my opinion, next to every character from XII of course. And X-2? Really? You've officially lost the right to trash VII, sorry pal.

I've lost nothing!

X-2 was good. I can see why most people didn't like it considering it features some particularly annoying parts and it centers around trying to find one of the worst FF characters ever, but it continued what I considered to be an excellent story with the only FF combat system I ever cared for.

VII sucks. It sucked balls. Cloud [i/]is[/i] the worst FF character ever. The graphics are terrible and make it almost unplayable now and all the characters in general suck. The only cool thing about 7 was Sephiroth.

He was the only thing in that game that made it somewhat playable.

I'll believe it when I see it.

And why wouldn't they in all honesty? They'd make gobs and gobs of cash for a game people have most likely already bought once and will likely again for a second time. Not to mention the people that always wanted to play it but never did, and still don't because it's still so out dated. If not for a fan service, then purely as a marketing decision should be another reason to do so.

I'd prefer a remake of 5.
And this time, they keep the original name.
[sub]Good ol' Buttz![/sub]

I can totally picture them sitting around in a dimly lit office discussing ways of taunting fanboys.

Sort of like The Godfather's scene [http://lancemannion.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/godfather1.jpg], only much more Japanese.

I was never a fan of 7, but I wouldn't mind 8,9, or 10 - I thoroughly enjoyed all of those. And hell, I'd be satisfied with PSP(Crisis Core) graphics, really. And better voice acting.

..Come to think of it, I'd be more or less content with any Final Fantasy game remade to be like Crisis Core on the PSP.

Because talking about it is cheaper than making it.
QFT. And it builds buzz about the current 13.
Well, it causes threads like this anyway.

I really hope they never do this. A remake wouldn't really improve on any of the things I enjoyed about FFVII and I don't think that it would fix anything I didn't like without completely re-imagining the game. I would really rather see a remake of something that had more definitively awful parts so that it would be easier to fix. I just don't think a remake could be a significant improvement without altering enough that it wouldn't really be the same game any more.
