Wait... fucking why is this happening? Every Final Fantasy for the last "x" years has been more or less the same. XIII threw in some new shit, sure, but it did fuck-all for the presentation and story, didn't it?
That's what they do best, like the old FF? You had better keep playing it the next one will be totally different.JediMB said:Oh, agreed, but FFXI had a lot of problems that just couldn't be rectified without redoing the whole game from the ground up.PaulH said:I thought FFXI was actually a half decent MMO. For an MMO. World was big, interesting locales, warkable mechanics, expansions weren't bad either (only played Zilart and Promathia).JediMB said:Considering the effort they're putting into keeping their customers around long enough for them to be able to redesign the game completely...Danzaivar said:Square-Enix would probably like to as well.Xzi said:Oh, right. Forgot about that train wreck.
I'm going to say that they're doing the opposite of trying to forget it. They're actually trying to learn from and fix their mistakes. Shocking, really, considering how they "learned" from FFXI when they made FFXIV.
They had the chance to do this with FFXIV, but instead decided to ignore all the lessons learned with FFXI so that they could instead just make entirely new ones.

I chuckled at this, because Versus XIII is supposed to be a sandbox Action RPG.Xzi said:Nah, it's pretty obvious that they're dead-set on making each new Final Fantasy game more linear and simplistic than the last. The Square we once knew is dead. The staff for Tactics, FF7, and everything before it was almost entirely different than what it is now, and that's the reason.
Actually, this is the chance for them to redeem themselves. They listen to user complaints as much as any other company. Bioware did the same thing by making Mass Effect 2 more linear but having more action in it.zega frega omega said:I've got an idea: BOYCOTT THE GAME. Maybe then Square Enix will actually try to make good games instead of vomiting its former triumphs. We've got to show these assholes that 50 hours of corridors and whining is unacceptable.

I'd wager that a "sandbox" is what Square-Enix now defines as a choice of two halls to walk down, instead of one.Defense said:I chuckled at this, because Versus XIII is supposed to be a sandbox Action RPG.Xzi said:Nah, it's pretty obvious that they're dead-set on making each new Final Fantasy game more linear and simplistic than the last. And I didn't play it, but wasn't Final Fantasy XII actually nonlinear?

Well then, you'll have to direct me to where the hallways are in that video, I seemed to have missed them.
And why did the first half of the video look like it was from the PSX? Must be on PSP, eh?
