Rick (The walking dead) - Most people hated Dale but Rick is JUST as preachy and self righteous.
Mitsuru (Persona 3) - stereotypical mary sue
Starkiller (TFU) - He's a bland-overpowered product of fanboy wet dreams.
Sanji (One Piece) - He's sexist.

This idiot, with every bone in my natural body. I don't know at what point I was supposed to like her, but everything she was and did made me hate her a lot more than I probably should have. Given what Monkey eventually did I grew to hate him too.

Umm there are likely some characters I don't like all that much that others do. But I don't care if they do. All this kind of thread is is hipster ego jerking off. "Oh you don't like something that someone dose like, that clearly makes you better then them and more intelligent" All this ever turns into is I don't like X others are dumb for liking it. I would love to be proven wrong but I don't think I will be.
"makes you better than* them" -sorry it just hurts my brain whenever I read something like that that.

OT: I agree with everything you just said. Everyone has their own opinions, it doesn't matter if you disagree with them. These topics so often devolve into pointless debates.

I will say though, sometimes people do present new points of view that give a unique insight into a character. I consider these new insights valuable. It's just unfortunate that they are uncommon in topics like this one.

Mako; from the legend of Korra

This guy is a douche and yet somehow has 2 attractive woman after him, one being the Avatar the other a girl from an incredibly wealthy family. The entire finale I was waiting for both Korra and Asami to ditch him and go for lesbians.
Yes, This.

Mako is a total ass. He treats Korra like trash for the early parts of the season, and then after he is in a good relationship with Asami he then develops feelings for Korra and then justs leaves Asami for Korra after Asami's dad gets arrested. Mako is a terrible character who I want to punch in the face.

Others Include:
Tali'zorah nar Rayya vas Normandy (Mass Effect) - I don't really hate her but I find it interesting that so many people like her alot. Maybe it's the mystery of her face but I find her just ok.

Rarity (MLP:FiM) - For being the element of generosity she is kind of a greedy *****. Unless she ends up being very generous in Season 3 or ends up with Spike (yeah I think it could happen) she isn't really appealing to me.

Kratos (God of War) - All he does is kill stuff and have sex.

Captain Price (Modern Warfare) - In the first one he's ok but in two and three is is just plain nuts.

Trixie from MLP:FIM

I don't get why so many bronies like her?
They say she's just "misunderstood" and "over looked".
Well all I see is an attention seeker who likes to make other ponies miserable and make herself feel superior.
She's got a cool outfit, a pretty good design and an amazing voice. Actually, yeah, i think it's mostly due to her voice actress.

But i'm gonna say Fluttershy. As a placeholder for that shy, innocent, submissive female archetype that i hate, hate, hate. Now, Fluttershy does at least have her moments of genuine personality other than "i'm cute and innocent, please don't hurt me" but there are worse examples. I mean, there's being shy and there's being a doormat and i don't find the latter likeable at all.

Rarity (MLP:FiM). A complete ***** that, despite being the element of generosity, is selfish and spoiled and encompasses basically every negative personality trait a woman could possibly have.

To bring it away from pony-related things, I don't understand what anyone could possibly see in Nathan Drake or the Uncharted franchise in general. The gameplay is shit, the characters are shit...it's all just...shit.

I'm drawing a huge blank, here, because I know there are tons of characters that I absolutely despise that other people adore...I suppose every single character in Nightmare Before Christmas would fit.

I absolutely LOATHE Gwen from Torchwood. I hate her SO MUCH. She's completely inept and always lets her feelings override her reason. Just... so many reasons to hate her. She's basically a Mary Sue. She never faces consequences for her mistakes. I can't stand her. So of course...

...she's the only one other than Jack to survive the series. Ianto should have lived instead of her. Ianto was my favorite.

I'll second Kratos. I just don't like my monsters to be human, I find it a waste of my time and interest. And I find that he is a monster.

I've never really liked Ezio Auditore very much. I'll concede that he's a step-up from Altair, in that he at least has a personality, but there wasn't really enough depth to him to make him interesting enough to carry a trilogy of games, in my opinion. After the conclusion of AC2, I thought he lost a lot of the motivation he had initially. Not just motivation, actually: his entire character in the second game is defined by the opening hour or so, and when you move past that, he just becomes extremely thin. After the second game, they should just have taken a break, and made AC3 the 3rd entry in the series, both numerically and chronologically. That's assuming Connor can carry a game, of course.

Johny Test. I can understand a character being motivated by selfish desires and maybe brushing their guilt to one side so they can move foward, but everything Johny Test does is for selfish reasons and he shows little to no guilt for doing so. He doesn't think, he doesn't empathize, and he gives no thought to the possible consequences of his actions. He's only a selfish little fuckwad with an annoying voice who would put the entire world in a pernament ice age if only to have an extra day off of school.

Actually, I hate all the characters from that show for various reasons, but he's so bad that it infuriates me.

Liara fucking T'Soni. Was only plot relevant in the first game due to Benezia being Saren's right hand, does nothing for the rest of the series but be space waifu socially awkward nerd fantasy bait, either for them to shove their dick in with Sheploo or have steamy PG Lesbian sex with Femshep.

Seriously, what did she do that was plot relevant past ME1? Become the Shadow Broker? Whatever happened to that whole Scientist thing? And even that does little to pan out. Once she joins you again in ME3, anything regarding her being the Shadow Broker barely even registers.

I fucking hate her personality. It's just the same Wilting Flower routine to make socially awkward gamers go gaga over her, because there is somebody more inept than they are, and since she's virtual, they are playing a power fantasy.
I agree. She's really useless, clingy, and worst of all, omnipresent. It's like all the other characters can die, one way or another, except her... I know some people like her, but I can't quite fathom why.
On top of this I also couldn't stand her voice acting, I had to laugh several times whenever she started talking.

This may not be entirely relevant to the thread, since I don't know what other people think of the subject.

From what I can gather the only thing my brother watches is the disney channel. Recently I have noticed there is a new version of spiderman airing and I took an almost instant dislike to it.

I can't claim that its because the new one is not proper marvel or what have you since Ive never really actually read the comics and my experience of the cartoons is limited to the series as it was in the 90's and it was enjoyable. There are many things about that new show which I felt were wrong, despite not being a hardcore comic fan. This irritates me.

If I've understood correctly, people like Daenarys Targaryen from A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones quite a lot.
I don't, although I don't really know why. It might be because I
thought Viserys was a more effective threat and I might still be blaming her for his death
If it matters, I'm still reading the first part of A Storm of Swords (and from what I've heard, it does).
But generally, I don't really ever visit any other forums, so I can't really tell what characters are liked and who aren't.

Scooby-Doo pisses me off so much. He?s just so annoying, unfunny, and ridiculously retarded, even for an anthropomorphic dog, and has no-one ever noticed that he basically just repeats everything Shaggy says? And yet, he gets top billing and some fucking commemorative statue built of him at the end of many episodes.

Tweety the Bird, Road Runner, and Hereny Hawk in Looney Tunes. It honestly seems as if those cartoons are tailored to specifically make us sympathetic with the so-called ?villains?: Sylvester the Cat, Wile E. Coyote, and Foghorn Leghorn, when more often than not, they?re just trying to catch their food. And Tweety has the most annoying voice ever, and him, Road Runner, and Hereny Hawk are just fucking trolls.

All the characters in How I Met Your Mother, except Barney and Robin. Ted?s an annoyingly idealistic and hopeless hypocritical romantic, and Marshall and Lily are a sitcom couple that I simply can?t invest in because of how cheesy and pointless they seem to be.

For me, it's Katniss Everdeen. She's just not likeable.
She gets pretty much everyone killed in the end (in some horrible ways I might add), all because she wanted to go kill one guy, which she doesn't even do.
Not to mention she just acts like a ***** to everyone, and is sort of hissy fit prone.
Agreed, but in my opinion there were no likeable characters left at the end of that book. Except maybe
Haymitch.
All the other characters either died, had complete personality changes, or were total douchebags. Can't remember an ending that let me down more.

And while I'm ranting about that book:
Katniss should never have been jailed at the end of the book when she does that thing we all knew she was going to do. The resistance had built her up as waay too much of a hero for the people to turn on her that quickly for killing someone they barely knew. At that point in the story Katniss was basically Caesar. She could have been queen if she wanted it, but the author had to make sure we felt she was still (stupidly) being downtrodden and abandoned. To hell with narrative coherence.

*end rant*

For me, I also agree with those who said Batman.

I seriously dislike gordon freeman
because of the way in which he is a silent protagonist, with most types I have no issue like RYU from "breath of fire"
but he just comes off as an asshole -.-
yatzee had talked about him indirectly in his Dishonored [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/6445-Dishonored]

also Aerith from FF VII
I seem to be the only one who wasn't a bit phased when she finally kicked the bucket.
To a minor part cloud strife just because he fell in love with some humongous blob of naivety named aerith XD

And wow, I just cannot get a break today without someone beating me to the punch.

Well, I don't think anyone's said Jack yet.
There is just nothing likable about Jack in Mass Effect 2. Tragic backstory? I got that out of my system with Toombs [http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Corporal_Toombs] in ME1. And he was absolutely wrecked by it.
But you, Jack? You're still sane. You're still kicking. And you're still a spoiled brat with egocentric projections about your childhood. All the other kids had it off much worse than you due to the fact they weren't as valuable. Heck, they probably were subject to the same experiments you were for the sole purpose of kinking out the bugs just so they wouldn't screw it up when it came time to do you.

My sympathy reserves are empty, and you've got to fill them up yourself. Either get your act together (which she thankfully does in ME3) or go die in a fire.
She's very similar to the Trixie example, but I actually like Trixie. Not because I think she's in any way a deeper character than she's presented, but because I seriously think I can bust her down three notches with my own smug ego if we were to ever meet. She's amateur hour.
Jack though? I'd just as soon ditch her in a penitentiary and get it over with.

Doesn't it bother you that the show is popular as hell.
Just a little. There are other, better shows that are also popular as hell, so they balance it out for me.

This to...um, well, depending on which one you're talking about. I actually like Spectacular Spiderman, which was the last Spiderman cartoon. It had a strange art style, sure, but it kept the spirit of the older cartoon and the overall story arc was interesting.

The newest one, being Ultimate Spidermn, bums me out because teaming him up with other superheros who also know his secret identity takes away that sense of solitude that comes with keeping his identity a secret. Basically, in the older cartoons, he was alone in balancing his life as Spiderman and his life as Peter Parker. In this one, he has his other super hero buddies.
There's also the bad puns that break the pace of the action, the weird changes (Eddie Brock no longer Venom (like you said, I don't read the comics, so I don't know what's going on there)), and other things that I'm sure I'll think about after I've posted this.
