I'll never understand why there are laws against file-sharing/pirating...

I mean, I know why but I'll never understand it.
You see, in this here Capitalist society, we have these things called businesses. They are headed up by the minions of Cthulu
Cthulu would be more loving than the RIAA

Epic fail. Everybody watch out! Big bad music industry stomping around, suing women, children, and fat guys alike, making sure the world continues to spin on their finger.

Arent songs 99c on iTunes so surely she only owes the $1683 ? & if she's buying 1700 shouldnt she get a discount ;D
They're not charging her for the cost of the song. Go to walmart and steal a $200 xbox and get caught. Now, walmart isn't going to charge you $200, instead, they're going to say "out of 10 people stealing this, we catch 1 of em" and they'll charge you $2,000 for it. Now, picture this with music...

I don't see how this new judgment is the RIAA's fault. The jury were the ones who raised the damages and they probably did it because she 'outright lied' during the case.

I don't see why I should feel any sympathy for this woman. She did something she knew to be illegal, she got caught and now she's being punished. End of story.

I feel quite sorry for that woman, if she already paid a fine once, why does she have to pay a second one for the same pirated music, that is much higher than tthe first?
I don't think she had to pay the first one, because there was a retrial. If she'd paid the first one the case would be considered closed and they couldn't just open it again - they'd have to sue her over some new misbehavior.

I'd do the same as the lady in this case.

"Oh, very good. You have access to millions of dollars worth of lawyers. I don't. And you won! Good job there, mate. I'll just go live in my box now. I'll get a few friends to send photos of my box to CNN, though. Do you mind?"

That woman deserves a high five.
...Why? She broke the law. She's a criminal.
I guess that makes Rosa Parks a dirty criminal too then?
Rosa Parks stood up for individual human rights. This lady is standing up for theft. Totally the same thing.
Back in the old days, that upstanding for human rights would have been considered an obstruction of progress.

Different people have different views.

$2million? Do jurors just pull big sounding numbers out their asses for these things?
I am sure of it, its a completely unrealistic punishment for almost everyone.
