Alright,I've been playing FFD for a long while now and I think I've got a good grasp of the game. I think it's my favorite action game ever, for any console and I simply adore the complexity/depth this game has to offer. Anyway.....
I was wondering, what characters do you use? Do you have a main? why do you use them? If you use Kuja do you spam ultima or is this just my friend who does this? Why does Sephiroths Hell's Gate deflect off of Zidanes face?
(you dont need to answer those last three)

for me , I use the FF7 characteers, and...randomly, Garland.. I like them cause they are balanced...and sephy is ma main.

I main with Squall, second is Cloud, adn third is Cecil. I use them because... Well, FFVIII is my favourite, then VII, and then IV

Squall's what I would consider my 'main', though I get bored of playing the same character alot, so I like to spread it around.

i would have to say jecht...for some reason, he was always the hardest boss for me, i would sit there screaming at the screen saying "YOU PIECE OF SHIT YOU CANT COUNTER THAT!" buttt i also used cloud and onion knight from afar..can spam like a ************, so when you get him raised up and all woooh hes pretty good.

back to jecht tho, his moves at least for me, counter the shit out of anything (especially against me) and i would just rapeeee with the "come on come on come on one more!" move

I don't play it any more because I played it too much when I first picked it up, and the PSP gave me horrible wrist cramps for weeks. ;_; I unfortunately can't play it any more because I depend greatly on my hands to write and do my assignments and can't risk getting carpel-tunnel.

Still, I preferred Golbez and Sephiroth.

From what iv played i like to use Squall, i like his speed and balanced Long range-melee move set.
But i need to play it more to make a good judgment.

dammit i hated fighting Jecht. his block stops everything! the only one who I've been able to fight the 1v 120, maximum, viscous Jecht with is my Sephiroth. Half their moves are the same anyways.

I use mainly Gabranth because when I would play with my friends they would always choose the FFVII characters and I wanted to use him.

I main a Hybrid style Onion Knight fastest character in the game, plus all of his attacks chain into HP attacks, With him I specifically use an Ex-mode build that is pretty self sustaining and helps to average out his biggest weakness (piss-poor brv damage)

My favorite to play with currently is Gabranth, i wouldn't ever play with him online because he's to much of a liability until he can actually get into Ex-mode, which is why i play the coliseum instead since you usually finish the fights with close to or full ex-mode and it carries over, all the fun of gabranth without the crappy build-up to his insane power.

With decent equipment and weapon you can easily cause 3k bravery damage in one combo to a lvl 100

Tidus is my main, he's my favourite fictional character ever so it was inevitable. He can dodge like a ************ which is very fun, has great melee moves and the best HP attack: the Jecht Shot is awesome. Since his dodge-attacks can be upgraded to chain into a HP attack he becomes extremely strong.

Warrior of Light is my second, he has great brave attacks ready for any angle of attack and Shining Wave is one of the best HP attacks.

I and pretty much good with every character, I got them all mastered and have a firm grasp on their meta game, but I've also sunk 400+ hours into this addictive as hell fighter. But as for my top characters well:

Golbez was my first main because he fucking owns. He's the perfect balance between speed, range, attacks, and combos. Golbez's combos are as insane as Jechts if you got you timing down right and know all about dodge canceling and how his attacks link into each other. He's also a hard character to counter sometimes due to his attacks having some awkward angles. Also Cosmic ray is fucking epic.

Gabranth, oh my dear Gabranth what a monster I turned you into. With the right gear build you can keep Gabranth in EX mode indefinitely throughout a battle, which is precisely what I made him. Screw damage multipliers and all that junk, he's supposed to be stacked with EX multipliers and EX force absorption extenders. With the ultimate EX build, as long as you keep attacking, all the EX force will go to you and EXP-EX force perk on just sweetens the deal. You don't NEED any sort of stat boosters seeing as his EX mode makes him do beastly damage as it is, and his speed makes him soetimes difficult to block. All you do is EX burst cancel when doing HP attacks and save that burst for the final blow. Gabranth is a true monster if you build him right.

Jecht, the man you want to master if you are the crazy rushing type fighter. His combos are brutal and his deflecting palm attack is a great mind game and defensive ability. his combos are the most satisfying to pull off and really makes you feel like a bad ass when you whoop ass with him. The absolute definition of an offensive fighter, not to mention full of pure manliness.

EX-Death, the great brick wall of death. I'm sure most people hate EX-death sue to his steep learning curve and the fact that he's slower than the second coming of christ. The pure defensive fighter and the absolute definition of the word. I love this evil tree to bits. His guard-counter meta game makes him so unbelievably dangerous in the hands of a skilled player, that he is quite literally the strongest fighter in the game. His guard properties make him almost impenetrable and forces the offender to approach with sever caution. He's just simply awesome oncen you know what you're doing with him, plus Neo Almegist is awesome.

This three are the top 3 fighters in the game for me. I still love using Cloud, Sephy, Squall, Tidus, Terra, Garland, ect... They're all fun to play when you understand are attune yourself to their play styles, but THOSE 3 are terrifying monsters of death that stack up to being some of the greatest characters in ANY fighting game.

Yea...as you can deduce from all this I simply adore the game. It's one of the best fighters to come out in a LONG time and it's unique nd innovative game play is a breath of fresh air in a genre that more or less FEELS stagnant, even though it's not.

My favorite to use was always Zidane, getting in fast and getting combos is very satisfying.

Though I do tend to win more when I use Terra, I like her long range.

Very nice, I've only put maybe 200 hours into it myself and have to completely agree with it being a breath of fresh air in an otherwise dismal genre

I've wanted to master ex-death for so long, but ugh never could get myself up to it lol

Yes Ex-Death is a true lesson in patience and reading your opponent. In order to master him you NEED to know how every other character works in terms of attacks, cool down times, range, guard crushes, and simple foresight. He's not easy and you will easily get frustrated with him until you finally get in sync with him. The end result pays off though since you will mutilate opponents who are reckless opponents and always keep the pressure on them seeing as it's simply a waiting game with Ex-death.

I have a few awesome replays of my ex-death in action, I could upload them later for reference.

Yea, I know exactly what you mean I've gotten good enough with him to for the most part beat any of the computer's relatively easy just not so excellent with the timing quite yet, I'm more of a fan for the fast types myself so thinking of perhaps mastering Tidus next any suggestions on him? I haven't touched him outside of a few free battle and his story mode to be honest.

Tidus is pretty damn good as a counter fighter. he's pretty heavy on the parry attacks as most of his brave HP combos have dodge abilities built into them. The trick is to more or less fool your opponent and acting accordingly to their attacks. A well timed attack will have you dodging yur opponents initial attack and then hitting them hard in their lul of recovery. he's a parry fighter so it's all about deeking them and then slapping them in their faces when they least expect it.

I think my fight with cloud here is a good example of how a good Tidus is supposed to function.

I like Kefka! He's very good at annoying your opponent, and you can run and just spam trine if you want! But I also use almost everyone except for warrior, garland, firion, onion, cloud of darkness.
