It really doesn't matter. I'd stay away from Vincent as his Limit Break makes him uncontrollable until he dies/the end of the battle. Tifa, Yuffie, Barrett, Red XIII, and Cid are all decent choices.

i see alot of people not liking vincents limit break i wasen't fussed about it but then again i really didn't die that much =/ all about how you play i guess

Red XIII was quite flexible because he's got good enough materia slots and stats to be good at both attack and defence work.

Vincent and Cid/Yuffie. At higher levels Cid will start to tank everything.

I replayed the game a couple of years ago and found that Yuffie is underrated as hell. She isn't all that bad! Normally I go with Barrett and either Tifa or Cid but I found that Yuffie and Nanaki (Red XIII) are good choices too.

I've just bought it for the PS3 and I'm wondering which two people to use alongside Cloud, I really have no idea about this game so any advice would be appreciated.

You really need to rotate and use at least 5 charachters, because you can't use all the charachters for all of the game.

I personally use Vincent and Yuffie, as they take less damage in the back line and do the same damage.

And their attacks get quite powerful later on.
And Vincent is awesome.

Most have a distinct ability that is useful. The only ones to stay away from would be Cait Sith and possibly Yuffie. I'd say the best choices would be Cid and Tifa. They're extremely powerful. Although first time I played through the entire game, I just went with whatever characters were my favorites, i.e. Vincent and Red XIII. (although now I like every character equally)

Personality wise, sure there not very appealing, but gameplay wise, cait sith can rip apart anything in the game with his limit breaks provided your lucky enough, and Yuffie is... Well, there's nothing particularly wrong with Yuffie.

Vincent is pretty good, but don't do what I did and make him a healer, then use his limit break, turning him berserk, and leaving my party helpless. Oh, and Tifa is always a good choice, as is Cid, both with amazing limit breaks.
