Because FFX-2 was such a good idea...
Maybe FFXIII was just that bad or I was just a super sucker for FFX-2s battle system but I think FFX-2 was so much better than FFXIII it actually makes me kinda sad to think about it

I'm actually optimistic about the thing, unlike a few other people on here. I noticed that Square seems to really care about keeping it's customers happy, look at final fantasy XIV as an example, they hired a new development team to work on the game since it was so broken AND apologized to it's player base and allowed people to continue playing for no cost until they can sort everything out, that takes some devotion to making a good game.
No, it really doesn't. Square don't give a damn about anyone bar themselves, that's just damage control, they realize that the game will never recover if they loose their player-base now, so they keep the players happy until they can proclaim the game is "fixed" thus getting more media attention, getting existing players to rope back in their friends and so forth. They'll start charging the second the same is a mediocre MMO...

Lets look at the history shall we?

FFX sucked
and its sequal, FFX-2, was even worse

Seeing as FF13 is what I consider to be the worst game ever made (Or atleast worst major release.), FF13-2 should be absolute shit. Not like I expect anymore from Final Fantasy now anways.
FFX didn't suck! You thinking of Final fantasy XI, now that sucked, it's the only one, too me, that sucked. (Haven't played X-2)
No I'm pretty sure I put my head on straight this morning, so I am thinking straight. FFX definitely sucked. I swear if I ever met the main charecter..or yuna.. or anyone in that game on the street I would punch them square in the face.
Yah true most of them were a bit...annoying, but it didn't affect the game in any serious way for me!

Here, let me share my actual, out-loud reaction to reading the title of this article.

BLEEEEEEAAAUUUUUGHHH.

When a 20-hour map of your game is basically a completely straight line with no variations and gameplay seems to occur even more on sufferance than ever before, just... Eugh.

I'll admit I haven't played FF13, but even the people who LIKE FF13 say you have to play something like 20 freaking hours before it gets good. If I play Persona 3, it's good in the first 20 minutes. If anything, a game should have its BEST content in the front and at the end. If there's a little filler in the middle, people will probably be able to stand that better than a crap opener and disappointing ending.

Why doesn't Square just go make another FF movie? We all know that's what games like this are gravitating towards anyway. At least if they make a crappy movie, I can watch it and not waste more than 3 hours of my life, as opposed to 25-30 hours.

Compared to XIII, I actually liked X-2. Which means I played X-2 through to the end while I gave up on XIII about 5 hours of play after everyone said it would get good. It didn't.

Edit: One more thing...I really don't think those who would like to see VII remade would like what that would ultimately be under the Squeenix of today. They would never be content to make a direct word-for-word, scene-for-scene port to modern graphics. You all know it would end in tears.

And I'm not talking about the kind of tears you cried when the Flower Girl gets it. The resulting flame wars would be never-ending. God help us all if that ever happens. ;)
I've been saying this for a while now. The SE of today can only make what it is capable of making today, which seems to be mostly garbage.

They couldn't freaking remake CHRONO TRIGGER without tacking on a completely worthless dungeon, crappy items that were totally unnecessary and a new translation which sucked much harder than the original (which merely had a few typos). AND it took them years to actually remake a game which was pretty rare, and which they knew people wanted. Still waiting on freaking Illusion of Gaia/Secret of Mana, Squaresoft! No, wait! Actually, on second thought, please leave my childhood alone!

This is coming from the man who Directed FFX-2 and FFXIII

I am FILLED with confidence.

Hey remember Versus and Agito (now Type-0) how about you RELEASE THEM FIRST! I realize that for some reason Nomura stepped on your toes and you pushed Versus to the bottom of the 'important' pile until he caves or whatever, but We've seen 6 minutes of FF Versus. 6 MINUTES and it in those 6 minutes looked more intresting than XIII ever did.

STOP PUSHING THIS CRAP, STOP THE PROJECT. FOCUS ON 1 OR 2 GAMES. FOCUS ON VERSUS AND TYPE-0. RELEASE THEM. THEN YOU CAN ANNOUNCE MORE SHIT!

Yoichi Wada you are running this company into the ground, this is BEYOND Kotick levels, Kotick doesn't anounce a billion fucking games and never release them.

The only way I would play this game would be if it started with Lightning dying. She's such a turn-off.

I'm surprised they're making a follow-up to (what I had perceived to be) a widely-panned game. I'm even more surprised they think squeezing out a sequel to FFXIII is a safer bet than a remake (or hell, a sequel) to FFVII.

Hopefully this one will be more of a game, and less of a Commander situation. I HATED that i didn't actually control what spells were used, or even how to position my party. The game was more of a movie with some cheep gimmick of interaction than an actual game. AI subroutines are fine and dandy for enemies, but don't make me use them too.
