Why don't we all just settle for MMO's that are actually good? Like EVE Online? They advertised so rampantly here on The Escapist last year.
You might be right, considering the people I played with were long-term players who, like me, just got used to the interface with time. I functioned just fine with the mouse, though I was young when I started, so maybe as my brain was developing I grew a tumor that allowed me to use it without frustration.Scrumpmonkey said:Pfffftt Hahaha! In XI, the interface was essentially the same on 360, PS3, and PC. I never heard complaints from anybody about how it functions.GiantRedButton said:console interface for a pc mmo? never going to work. Yes it functions. Execpt you can't acutally use your mouse with the UI in XI. you have to learn a whole new way of doing things which is best done keyboard only. For a PC interface this is shooting your game, not only in the foot, but in both legs too.
In related news, FFXIV will continue to suck for an indefinate period.
I didn't have any problem with XI's PC controls, I think they reactivated the part of my brain used to not having enough conventional memory free to use a mouse.Scrumpmonkey said:Pfffftt Hahaha! Are you serious? That was just two people cracking wise at minutiae. There wasn't any explanation of anything in that video.sunami88 said:If you've got about a billion hours (I watched this when recently house-locked due to a cold that seriously kicked my ass), this is a really IN DEPTH explanation of why this game fails for just about every single reason ever.
Seriously, watch at least 1 or 2 parts. [http://www.youtube.com/user/BlueXephos#p/c/561514793F6CB99F/0/aF7vrQ04_q4]. Who the hell green lit this game?
What do you mean "if"?Daystar Clarion said:I wonder how much money Square Enix will lose if this game flops.
Sounds to me like it already has.Daystar Clarion said:I wonder how much money Square Enix will lose if this game flops.
Do you mean like, more movies based on past games? Like a FFVIII prequel about Ultimecia's rise to power or, an FFVI movie of some kind? I'd get behind that. I liked Birth by Sleep and, Star Ocean: The Last Hope but FFXIII was gawd-awful. Dragon Quest IX seemed bland to me and, Dissidia could have been better. As for Final Fantasy XIV specifically, it is an MMO, a type of game I don't play anyway. I've tried DDO as that is free but it just can't hold my attention (just like Silk Road and that weird Cartoon Network thing)Straying Bullet said:If it does, I wouldn't drop a single tear. Their latest games have been shit anyways if you ask me.
Then again, they should create more CGI movies, they are amazing with those.
Fair enough PhiMed. I thought it was appalling just watching them walk around and interact with the world. They climb on top of a GIANT mountain to fish off of as part of a quest, at one point the guys character dies and they explain how at present there's absolutely no way to revive a fallen character, and the fact that the objectives are some times a good 5/10 minutes away from each other is just baffling to me.PhiMed said:Are you serious? "All the haircuts are childish and creepy". "There's too many cutscenes". Of course! It's Final Fantasy! Who cares?
That was one of the least informative videos I've ever seen. Wasn't planning on buying based on info I've read, but I almost want to now, just to spite these two jackholes.
Actually, I thought it was very informative, because I watched the game they were playing. Loading screen. Cutscene. Walk across a room. Cutscene. Cutscene. Fight a monster with a stupid sounding ability that is basically useless for the task at hand until an NPC rescues them. Cutscene. Cutscene. Talk to an NPC. Cutscene. Talk to an NPC. Cutscene. Get first quest: walk to a rock that is twenty minutes away. Get to rock. That's it for the quest, to complete it they have to now walk another twenty minutes back.PhiMed said:Are you serious? Again, it's Final Fantasy. If you're surprised by these things, then this is probably your first time with the franchise.Missing SHODAN said:Actually, I thought it was very informative, because I watched the game they were playing. FFXIV is basically the MMO of FFXIII. The game looks like it resents that at some point it's going to have to let the player do something besides watch cutscenes.
Hahahaha.PhiMed said:Again, it's Final Fantasy. If you're surprised by these things, then this is probably your first time with the franchise.

Bringing in F2P will be more or less a complete waste, as SE knows what kind of people like their games.LawlessSquirrel said:This game's in bad territory. A bad start and a shaky game in dire need of improvement isn't the best way to get a good subscription-base working. They've got pretty harsh competition too, things aren't looking good.
It would probably be wise to go F2P, or at least have it as an option. Recently it's proven to be a viable alternative. When compared to the likes of WoW and other paid games, FFXIV is lagging way behind. But compared to the inundation of Korean F2P games, it has a good chance at survival.
It could always turn it around with some unexpected brilliance in the near future, but it might be too late by then to bring in the player commitment it needs.
EDIT: However, I would still like to play it, if not for the knowledge that it'll become subscription based, and that most of the people I know wouldn't be interested.
