I cannot express the awesomeness of this in words. To do that I would need a rocket-powered skateboard, an electric guitar that shoots lightning, and Michael Bay in charge of explosives.

Also, curiosity makes me wonder how America would react to such a thing. *has mixed reaction of extreme laughter and fear*

I must say that Finland is awesome.
Not becouse the whole country can play online now, no. But the internet makes our lives damn easier nowdays.
With the advance of optical fiber, dial up connection, although widely used in many countries (such as mine <.<), is an obsolete technology.

It feels just awesome to make it a right. +1 to you Finland.

I can't lie, Finland is awesome. Can't wait till Christmas when I get to go there.
You'll probably be disappointed when you get here, Finland is actually quite boring place.

Education is a human right - the internet can assist in that.

Also, it has a LOT of porn.

While it is cool that everyone will have net access over there, I wouldn't call it a human right.

Just say that it's mandatory to provide service. Then there's no controversy. Or at least it's minimized.

Go Finland! Now to just convince the idiots in Parliament to follow suit.

Maybe if I don't start off every letter with "Dear Idiots,"

As much as I'm inclined to like this, I can't help but feel Finland's taking it to the extreme...
How so?
A Human Right? Not a privileged, that companies are obliged to give (don't quote me on that, I still haven't read the OP), but a Right.

Alot of people are making fun of the fact that it should be considered a legal, but think about the world we live in today. The advent of the internet is on par with the printing press, easily accessible information for the masses. Do you not believe that people have a right to knowledge via books also?

I feel they made a poor choice of words when saying blanketly that the internet is a legal/human right, a better choice of words would have been that fast and easy access to the information on the internet is a legal/human right.

I would ramble on more but I just don't feel like it. If it doesn't make any sense attribute it to the flu I'm fighting off.

1 mbit = enough for information on politics, news, weather, etc.
100 mbit = totally unnecessary

AOL is still around.......right? and I think they might have a broadband option.............
Yes AOL are still around im still running on one of there old broadband services you cant get anymore, granted is only 2.2mbs but hay unlimeted downloads :p

I think in this day and age everyone should be able to get a broadband connection as its such a basic resource now but still should pay for your service.

So... who's paying for this broadband access?

Is there going to be an "internet tax" in Finland now, and people are provided with that minimum amount as a "free" service?

"640K ought to be enough for anybody." Bill Gates in 1981.

To be fair though, he says he never said that. Well, that's what he says now anyway.

I'm not talking future though, i'm talking NOW, you know - when it's going to be used.
