During my (short) time on Escapist, I've noticed that alot of people really like Firefly and Serenity. From what people say, it sounds vey good. But (if you do) what do you like about it? And do you think that I should buy the series for £12.00 ($17.20)?

I would certainly recommend picking it up for that much. One of the things I have enjoyed about the series is how it broke down some of many of the prevalent sci-fi cliches.

For that price!? Go for it, I had a hard time finding the box set for my brother's birthday, found it and paid more than that for it.
I think it's because I watched the movie first, there seemed to be alot of backstory missing so I wikipedia'd it and found out about about the TV series.

I'd recommend buying Firefly on it's own, and not Serenity until you've seen the series and considered preparing for something that's, well, not AS good. Cheaper that way too.

Bloody hell mate, where are you getting it for that price? I'm coming with you. I absolutely loved it, my friend lent the boxset to me a while back, watched the entire series in about a week (this was when I was at high school so I didn't have much free time), then went straight out and saw Serenity first chance that came. I fully reccomend it, and as a fellow Brit I'm sure you'll agree that our US counterparts definitely make some of the best TV shows around...

Yeah they do. But to me, nothing beats Hustle (a TV show about con-men if you don't know). the UK version of Amazon are doing it for £11.98 (or Firefly and Serenity for £15.56) at the moment (just checked.

I love the series and movie mainly for the charcaters (still can't decide who my favorite is), but also the world the Joss Whedon has created is a nice take on Sci-fi. All of the episodes are consistantly great, and after watching them you will be asking yourself "Why the fuck did the tards at Fox cancel it? WHY?"

If you ddecide to buy the box set at that price you will be getting a really awesome deal, so by all means go for it, you won't be dissapointed.

Yeah, Hustle is pretty great. I saw this series, I have to say that the new guys are pretty good characters, surprising when you consider that Mickey, Albert and Two Socks have had about 5 or 6 seasons to develop, so it was going to be tough bringing new people in as well. Worked though, and I loved last week's finale :D

£12? Hell yeah, get it.

Last time I saw it round my parts of the UK it was £30.

I've seen Serentiy (the movie), and really want to get the back-story behind it. I've read about it on Wiki and forum discussions, and since I think the movie was fantastic (but missing huge chunks, which I guess the fans of the series are already naturally aware of) and also one of the funniest sci-fi's I've seen in a long time.

Its the funniest/saddest/silliest/most serious/shortest/most quotable scifi there is - given its £20 to by a boxset of a series of comparable length, £12 is a bargin

Yeah same, but I don't think Mickey should've won that one, and I really liked Harry and Carlton, as they were two people you just don't expect to be friends, as they are so different. Prefered Danny and Stacy though, but good to get Mickey Bricks back :D

Firefly and Serenity kickass!

I'm not a fan of Joss Whedon's works {though Dr. Horrible was fucking awesome!} but Firefly and Serentiy is sci-fi that doesn't take itself too seriously

Plus, Serenity > Star Wars Episode III
Hey Star Wars Episode III was awesome. Serenity was a bit amateur, I don't think there's much to argue that Firefly was better made then Serenity. I don't understand all the hatred for the new Star Wars trilogy, when people stop fighting and start talking that's the intermission for me, because that's when I leave the theatre to go to the bathroom.

The biggest plus for this whole series is the fact that Joss Whedon takes sci-fi seriously. And not melodramatic seriously, but real-life seriously. The focus of the show is the characters. And these people just happen to exist in a world of interplanetary travel with all its assorted problems, but they deal with all these problems as people actually might, not as characters in a movie might. There are no Master Chiefs here, no Vin Diesels, no Luke Skywalker Neos with mystical weapons. All those are of course fine, but it's very nice to see a story that throws real people into a fantastic setting and lets the audience see what it might really be like if they themselves were 'up there.' Joss Whedon is always very good at crafting characters and dialogue based in reality, and that's what he does here, plus with spaceships.

Spaceships, horses, and Wild West-type music. This is, after all, a space western, inspired by the original concept for the first Star Trek. Good Westerns have traditionally been stories about realistic people in dramatic situations, and that's exactly what Whedon crafts here, but now it's all backed by space.

The writing is fantastic. The acting is fantastic. Gina Torres is extremely hot, and Alan Tudyk is always fun to watch. Get it, and be converted.

It's free on HULU I think. If you want a permanent copy with out ads, that seems like a reasonable price.

Buy the series with your first-born child, if that's the asking price. It's totally worth it.

Everything > Star Wars Episode III. I'm a huge fan of the series, and it breaks my heart whenever I get to the last episode. The cast is all-star, the plot is simple yet elegant, and the writing incorporates both gravity and the kind of dry humor that I enjoy so very very much. It is my absolute favorite TV show of all time.

sorry to say no it's not

the funny part about Serenity is everyone screamed and cried for an ending/more Firefly and yet when the movie came out it flopped and was no where near being the box office hit that Episode III was

so if you want to look by how ppl voted with the money Episode III > Serenity

even story wise i'd have to go with Episode III is better

It's a good price, but I'm going to go against the general consensus and say that I didn't really enjoy the couple of episodes of Firefly I have seen.
I found the film to be much better
But for that price, might as well go for it, can always give it to someone else (most girls seem to love it)

In my opinion, Serenity was a great film and just as good as Firefly. Firefly had a more funny theme and Serenity had a darker theme. Whether or not Serenity is as good as Firefly really depends on whether or not you appreciate dark/humourous themes equally.
