I have just found out about a weapon called the firelance. An alien blaster with much more power and a 99% critical hit rate. Awesome.

However ,to get it you need to see a UFO explode in the air in a "random encounter".
I can guess what a random encounter is, but what, or where, triggers them?

I really want this firelance.
But I don't understand. There is no other help online other than a youtube video showing it and the encounter.

Does anyone have the firelance? Does anyone know how to get it?

Also, while I'm at the Fallout mysteries...who has found a location called
Bethesda Ruins
? What is it supposed to be? The ruins of the realistic location of the actual Bethesda Studios? Or just a building with the name as an easter egg?

And, there is a place somewhere I heard of that has written on a wall/sign or something
"TES IV"
. Nice! HAs anyone actually seen this?

(I don't want to look at an online map in case I see something I don't want to know about right now. I love exploring the wastes and finding new things)

Well, the encounters are pretty genuinely random. There are certain places that are more partial to events, and high luck helps trigger them. Check out www.fallout.wikia.com and look at the Firelance page. Has a few more hints and tips for getting it.

I've gotten it in most of my games, in random places.

I'm fairly certain you need to be walking around all over the place.
Maybe a higher luck rating helps.

Its a random encounter, therefore it is random.

There are about 100 pre-determined spots on the map where a random encounter can happen. Walking near one of these spots 'triggers' the encounter, by randomly selecting one from a list.

Therefore, there is no exact place where it can be found, so don't believe anything anyone tells you.

I wonder what the outcasts would give you for that or if they would just see it as another alien blaster.

Edit: I wanna say on xplay at some point they said that bethseda acually had a building located in DC and that was it, but i've gne there and there isn't anything relly amazing excepta bobblehead if i remeber correctly.

Don't have one, but best I could find, it's entirely random.

It's also not as useful as it seems... It's more of a collector's item or "get out of jail free card". It has very limited ammo (best I can tell, the ammo available to it is the one that crashes with it, so, a lot of it can be lost in the crash) and a critical shortage of parts for repair (only way to repair it is with the alien gun, and vice versa, limiting it's repairs to one)... It's a nice detail, a novelty item, that's all. Don't worry too much about it.

Lincoln's repeater ftw.

No, there is a town in that approximate position named 'Bethesda' in real America.

Doesn't it use the same ammo as the alien blaster also?

If it does, then there will be 100 ammo in the crash site of the alien ship, 100 in a military base somewhere (So I've heard), 100 in a secluded place somewhere near the top left of the map (So I've seen) and however many appear when the UFO crashes.

That's 300 base, providing you don't ever fire the alien blaster.

Quite a bit of ammo. Use that up (in extreme conditions only), repair if necessary with alien blaster, sell for it's worth. Sounds good to me...

Wow. Did not know that. Shame...I thought it was some crazy kind of easter egg. And there would be a developer's photo, or something. 'Tis not to be...

Amen to that. One of the best guns in the game, that trusty 'ol Repeater.
My friend got that, but didn't tell me where or how. It is like a really really powerful hunting rifle (one of my fav. weapons anyway) that is also super-accurate, if I am not mistaken. I will eventually find it.

BTW if anyone is wondering why I don't just wiki or youtube this stuff, it's because unless I deliberately WANT to know where something is, I usually prefer to find it myself, be it by accident, or after HOURS of educated searching.

Feel free to put locations of anything in spoiler tags, so I can decide whether I want to know or not.

Thanks =D

I'll give you a obvious hint. The name of the gun is tied to a particular quest. When you've found the quest, you'll know where to look for the gun.

Dayum. How long did you search? I would be there for HOURS, just to have this unique item.

Just bring Dogsteak along and tell him to search for weapons and ammo. There, Firelance and 24 APCs in 10 minutes.
