there is no crash site for the one that blows up cuz the random encounter is an explosion in the sky then the firelance and some blaster ammo spawns then falls to the floor so you may have just lost the firelance.

Dayum. How long did you search? I would be there for HOURS, just to have this unique item.
Just bring Dogsteak along and tell him to search for weapons and ammo. There, Firelance and 24 APCs in 10 minutes.
How do you get a dog? I suppose it is a perk...

Lemme inform you of my stats:

11 hours gameplay so far
taking leisurely pace
exploring a little
level 8
quite a few quests done

I had the game before, but I was a gaming noob and didn't realise changing the res down would make it perform better, so i got rid of it and regretted it for ages. Got it back like a few
days ago. Have played at every opurtunity.

before I got it back, I have only ever got so far as to have spoken to three dog, and had done a few side quests. So I don't know much. This time around, I am doing much more and much better due to the lower res. Woop!

*winces*

Damn. Well, the items stay forever, as do bodies, so maybe he has a chance of finding it if he goes back?

Dogmeat.

Scrapyard.

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Dogmeat_(Fallout_3)
Wow. I don't know if I would have him...i mean, 500 health means nothing to me in terms of how much enemies have, but how easily does he die? And at what level do you get the option for the puppies! perk? I may get him when I gain this perk. I don't know.

I have refused many followers. I think I like the idea of being the "lone wanderer". But for a dog...maybe.

Puppies! can be taken at level 22.

Kool. I may get it depending on the perks available at that time.

Lucky I got broken steel, eh?

That can happen if the UFO crashes and the raiders pick up the weapon to use against you.

OP, the Bethesda ruins has the Lockpick Bobblehead in it as far as I can remember, and there are a few skill books lying around too.

there is also a raider with a flamethrower here who has the infinitely respawning Big Guns skill book, just kill him and wait two weeks till he's back.

It's more fun to find them all though

One random encounter location is the second floor of the Temple of the Union, however, this only becomes a random encounter location after you complete the Head of State quest. A good way to get the Firelance is to fast travel to this location and see what random encounter occurs, if it is not the Firelance encounter, simply reload to the autosave from the fast travel and triy the process again. It will take many tries, but the encounter should happen eventually. I would recomend having Dogmeat with you so that he can find the weapon and the alien power cells for you, as they will become scattered all over the area.

Also, the Bethesda Ruins is the location of the Lockpick Bobblehead. A short distance east of the ruins can be found an unmarked location called the Raid Shack. It is a pre-war house that is still standing, and it is surrounded by bombed out houses. The shack is guarded by two raiders and has a makeshift barricade around it, so it is not easy to miss. Inside can be found a unique combat knife called Stabhappy.

If you have anymore questions regarding Fallout 3, I will be happy to answer them for you.

Get the Puppies! perk. It is the best perk in the game.

Dogmeat (not dogsteak) is found in the Scrapyard fighting a few raiders. He can take them, and I've used him to kill the Behemoth in Evergreen Mills, so don't worry too much about his health, unless you're using a Fat Man or Experimental MIRV.

EDIT: Oh and on topic, I found Firelance on a Raider in the middle of nowhere.

Don't have one, but best I could find, it's entirely random.

It's also not as useful as it seems... It's more of a collector's item or "get out of jail free card". It has very limited ammo (best I can tell, the ammo available to it is the one that crashes with it, so, a lot of it can be lost in the crash) and a critical shortage of parts for repair (only way to repair it is with the alien gun, and vice versa, limiting it's repairs to one)... It's a nice detail, a novelty item, that's all. Don't worry too much about it.

Lincoln's repeater ftw.
You get the ammo that lands with it. The ammo found near the Alien Blaster and the ammo found in a few random locations. The total combined ammo should be around 400.(could be lower but there's 120 near the Blaster, about 70 with the Firelance and some locations also have up to 100) With the correct perks and skills the Firelance will always crit and even a Behemoth should die in about 3 hits on Very Hard.(only a shotgun critical to the face could do more damage and possibly instakill a behemoth)

This is most likely common knowledge and some pretty basic information which just says "save/load and wait a bit longer every time X doesn't happen", but there's a chance someone will read this and also attempt to find better(less time consuming) ways of altering the outcomes.

The encounters are as random as they could get, it combines a random number with a die roll. If the random number is lower or equal to the die roll you get an encounter, which then gets 'rolled' again to determine the exact encounter and type.

The same is also done for locks and computers, where the "unlock" point is, what the password is and if the lock breaks or not when you force it. The former 2 aren't terribly important but it's still useful information. The latter is the most useful and as long as you're willing to reload a few times you could go through the entire game with a single pin.

The positive thing is that almost every 'roll' can be manipulated because they are somewhat tied to an internal timer.
Save the game in front of a door leading to an encounter zone and while exiting start pressing the "use" button, every time you do this after loading the same encounter will appear.
If you load and then wait a while, you will get another encounter and waiting the same time will again produce the same encounter.

I have just found out about a weapon called the firelance. An alien blaster with much more power and a 99% critical hit rate. Awesome.

However ,to get it you need to see a UFO explode in the air in a "random encounter".
I can guess what a random encounter is, but what, or where, triggers them?

I really want this firelance.
But I don't understand. There is no other help online other than a youtube video showing it and the encounter.

Does anyone have the firelance? Does anyone know how to get it?

Also, while I'm at the Fallout mysteries...who has found a location called
Bethesda Ruins
? What is it supposed to be? The ruins of the realistic location of the actual Bethesda Studios? Or just a building with the name as an easter egg?

And, there is a place somewhere I heard of that has written on a wall/sign or something
"TES IV"
. Nice! HAs anyone actually seen this?

(I don't want to look at an online map in case I see something I don't want to know about right now. I love exploring the wastes and finding new things)
The game takes place in Maryland, where Bethesda studios is located, hence why they inserted themselves. Also, keep an eye out for a door around the base of those radar dish towards, when opened, it has a special message for you from bethesda.

Where are the radar dishes? I wanna find this. I love easter eggs. I take screenshots of all the easter eggs I find on every game. An obsession I have.

I got really lucky one time, I walked out of the vault, and the UFO exploded right in front of me. It was literally closer than Megaton.

500 health is probably WAY more than yours if you're only level 8. Dogmeat is unbelievably resilient, in one fight he got set on fire, riddled with bullets and had a missile launched at him, and he was still (just about) standing. Also if you're the kind of player that saves alot, it's not much to just re-load the last save if he dies.
