Then why bother commenting? At all?

If you have nothing of value to say other than to "imply" an insult, then don't say anything. Not a very hard thing to do.
My opinion is of value. You may get offended if you please, that's beside the point.

Because I am disgusted by your need to put forth your worthless opinions where they aren't wanted, I do not nor will I ever bother taking you seriously again. Good day, sir.
Is it really a bad thing "TacticalAssasin1" doesn't take me seriously again?

Your profile says you live in Canada. You can own guns, I live in Canada and own six different ones. Unless there is some other reason you can't own them.

Try firing one, it's a pretty enjoyable experience. I shot a tomato with the .357 magnum I mentioned and a few water bottles.
Yeah, because the whole purpose behind owning a gun has nothing to do with hunting, sport shooting or defending yourself but with how fuckin awsum badazz you feel when you pull that trigger!

I'm struggling to resist the urge to be openly insulting here, but suffice it to say I have no respect for gun owners whatsoever. No, not even if they threaten to fucking shoot me if I don't respect them.

Does that apply to gun owners who have them for the sole purpose of hunting, sport shooting or defending themselves?

(Also, how is shooting tomatos and water bottles any different from sport shooting?)

Interesting. You have no respect for a group of people who own something you don't like, because... having guns hurts people? That can't be true, because if it was, the United States of America would have its population cut down by, what, a sixth, every year, based on gun ownership rates?

Or do you hate 52 million people because every year, less then 10000 people are murdered with firearms, most of which were in the process of illegal activity? Do you really disrespect 52 million people based on what less then 0.019% of the gun population does (Assuming each one of those murders was committed by a unique individual)?

I mean, that's an entirely fine opinion to have. I just want to be clear on what that opinion entails.

I checked my local laws, I was told I can't carry any traditional means of self defense except bear spray.

... oh, I said "can't own". Whups. I mean "can't carry".

I've never had a license nor have I ever owned a gun. But I've fired plenty of them since I joined the army.

In a properly controlled environment, they can be a fun pastime. I've also gone to a few local firing ranges on my free time, had a blast shooting various pistols but never got around to owning one myself.

When it doesn't contribute anything other than to stifle conversation because you don't like the subject, it isn't. Especially since you said practically nothing in that sentence other than a "feel good" passive aggressive insult. An opinion requires content, not a thinly veiled insult in the form of a single sentence. Its a thread derailing, "look at me plz" attitude. No different than the people who think posting "FIRST" is necessary.

It does nothing other than to try to build ego. If you don't like guns, then don't actively go to gun threads to preach about how you don't like guns.

Its no better than the obsessive preacher who goes into gay bars and preaches everyone else is wrong and needs "enlightenment."

Its no better than the obsessive parent who won't stop until everything in media is aimed at kids.

If you don't like it, then why don't you stay away from it? Its a question you have yet to answer.
My opinion of guns is low and I always try to show it by treating it with disgust. And I do not like GUNS, not gun THREADS, which is why I stay away from guns in real life, but in here I use every opportunity to speak lowly of guns. Because that is my opinion of them.

I'll probably never get a gun, to be honest. I don't really give a bother about whether or not I have one.

If I did get one, though, I'd want some kind of bolt-action rifle, preferably World War II era. Not sure why, but I've always liked bolt-action rifles.

Since I could never own anything other than a shotgun in the UK, and that frankly doesnt seem worth the effort it is to get the licence, I'll probably never own a gun. On the other hand, if I could 'd go for a Lee Enfield no.4 short, in my opinion the finest bolt action rifle ever made.

But this is not a thread about if you like guns or not. It's about guns you own. This isn't a blog. No one here asked opinions on whether guns are good or not. If people own guns, like people who this thread was made for, they clearly have already made up their mind and couldn't care less about your opinion. In this case, your opinion really is of no value, just like if I went into a PC building thread and said PS3 was the better choice. A completely useless post that does nothing but rille people up.

Hey, I've always sort of wondered how those different types of guns are assigned in the army. Do you request it? Do they order you? Do you have a little sit down with some people and discuss between yourselfs what might be a good fit?
Is there a raffle? Do you have to footrace the other cadets? Mud wrestle them?

I would like to think that if I was ever forced into the army I'd try to become a sniper. But if I have to footrace someone for it, it would be a dream short lived.

I do not live in a country where owning guns is generally permitted, and while I don't oppose owning them (although the obsession some people has bothers me). I can't pretend that I am knowledgeable enough about differing guns to really say exactly what one I might own, should I be allowed.

If I could I'd have a nice simple pistol. Nothing fancy, I'd prefer reliability, over anything else, seeing as the chances of it ever being used against somebody dressed in a tank is somewhat unlikely.

But as I said, I don't know enough about types to say what gun that would be.

I cannot speak for all militaries, but generally speaking if you are a superb shot during training, you may be considered to be put forward for specialist training as a sniper. It's not like the games where people seem to "choose" it, it's down to whether or not your skills and personality make it worth training you as one.

First Gun: .22 Marlin LR, then got a x8 Leopold scope on it shortly after.

A fun exercise I'd do with it: Shoot a round into the grass in front of the target, making grasshoppers jump up onto your target. Then, try popping the grasshoppers :D

Contrary to the often expressed belief, owning guns in the UK is not that difficult.

My first gun was a Winchester 140 semi auto shotgun that my parents bought for me when I was 16. I traded it in about 8 years later to buy high capacity Remington 1100.

My next guns were all pistols which sadly have been melted down by the Government after they were banned.

But now the rifles I own are a Ruger 10/22, Calico M100, 9mm AR, .44 mag Marlin 1894P, .45 Delisle silent carbine, .303 SMLE, .223 Browning BLR
Shotguns , Remington 1100, Remington 870, Beretta 686, Mossberg 930 and Ithaca Mag 10
And a couple of long barrel pistols that avoid the ban, .22 Browning Buckmark & Taurus .44 mag revolver.

If anyone in the UK wants to take up target shooting it's really quite simple to do so.

this is a public forum where everyone is and should be allowed an opinion. if you dont want certain people replying prese restrain yourself to PMs and fakebook groups where you can ban whoeever you want.
That's all well and good, but he still didn't actually add anything to the discussion. If he'd maybe talked about WHY guns disgust him so much, then that would be different, but he didn't. He basically just said "Guns are for assholes" and rode out of the thread on the highest of high horses. Not exactly constructive.

For example: I've never actually owned a gun, but I've used them recreationally a few times. Skeet shooting, that sort of thing. Couldn't tell you the model or anything. Though I'm totally for gun control, I certainly understand the appeal.

Depends.

Infantry are assigned weapons due to skill or ability - The strongest guy in the squad gets the M240B...

The most accurate soldiers are sent to sniper school, etc, etc. Some weapons, like M209's, are just selected and trained. For the most part, though, you use what your squad needs you to use.

Non-infantry just get whatever the unit gives them. I always got the heaviest stuff because I love big guns, but most of the time, its just random. The lone exception is the M249, which is frequently given to the smallest female they can find because having a 100 pound female carry a 20 pound weapon is amusing.

...And I just noticed she has a pistol. Which is a bit weird...

No offense intended, but this sort of looks more like a James Bond logo than a gun. I half expect to see a slinky femme-fatale reclining against the trigger.
Oh, I know. I didn't buy that gun because i was good looking.

Then again, its not particularly good at anything. But it was cheap. I should have known better though... to hell with Beretta. Can't even make a decent service pistol.

Beretta is Italian. Americans make proper guns, like the M1911.
Now on THAT we agree on.

'murica!
Despite being British, I endorse this gun.

OT: A Beretta over/under shotgun. Not really sure of its exact name, as it was bought for me.

I intend to move to America in several years, so I'll probably get into firearm collecting properly then. And I'll be better prepared to do so, as I intend to join the Royal Marines after university, and hope to gain an armourers's qualification.

He never said any such thing. He said guns disgust him. You read into that comment every negative thought about gun owners that you're seeing.
While I too want to remain neutral, and people can dislike guns as much as they like, the title of the thread was pretty damn clear, and it seems like he could have just not clicked on the thread, rather than going into a topic he knew wasn't about anything that interested him to make a resoundingly negative comment.

I'll happily defend his right to say anything he wants, but I agree with Silver, it seems unnecessarily pretentious.
