First Trailer For Pixar's Inside Out

First look sells Pixar legacy, introduces new characters

Pixar [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/disney] have released the first trailer for their big animated feature for next summer, Inside Out. The teaser takes fans back through a montage of memorably emotional moments from the animation powerhouse's legendary history, before segueing into a brief intro for the emotion-based heroes of the new film.

Up [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/137075-disney-pixar-riley-inside-out-first-look] director Pete Docter. It takes place primarily within the mind of a young girl named Riley, with the main characters being personifications of Riley's emotions: Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black), Fear (Bill Hader) and Disgust (Mindy Kaling).

In the film's story, Joy finds her previously life-long position as team leader (by way of being Riley's most-prominent emotion) being challenged by Sadness - who has suddenly become assertive as Riley approaches her teens. The two wind up trapped in the subconscious far from their command center, and must work together to get back before having only Anger, Fear and Disgust in charge transforms Riley into another permanently-moody preteen.

Inside Out is due for release on June 19, 2015

I can't believe Lewis Black is playing Anger. No one saw that coming.

Inside Out is Pete Docter's third Pixar film, not his second. He directed Monsters Inc before directing Up.

Lewis Black as anger sold the movie for me. Well it is a pixar movie so I was gonna see it anyway, but still, this is like Marlon Brando in Godfather level perfect casting.

"A Major Emotion Picture"

That alone sells the movie for me. In fact, I think we should try to make that a Meme.

I'll go see it at least once.

Also, I knew Fear was Bill Hader simply from his one yelled line. Because Bill Hader is in a lot of good stuff lately...

This looks really fresh and fun, but we didn't really need the circle-jerk "look what movies we made, and remember how emotional they were!" bit. Yes, Pixar, we know who you are. You don't need to rub it in our faces.

spoiler alert: for "reasons" Sadness teams up with anger, and kills the rest of the emotions in a very bloody after credits scene, and as a result she skips being a moody pre-teen, and instead turns into a average American adult female (a crying ball of anger).

I'd say this is following the zeitgeist, but that's just because I was a teenager. I'm kind of curious about how a plot like this could work. Will it just turn out that emotions are necessary and can be indulged in if they're taken in moderation? That's all I can see this being.

But...

If this doesn't go the route of metaphor, if this just simplifies the complexity of human thought and feeling by distilling it into a frank battle of personified emotions, I will throw a picture of my computer screen at the wall.

Best of luck to the movie, though!

Pete Doctor knows how to make a great film, when he tries, and I love the concept thus far. Here's hoping it turns out well.

Didn't Fox do this? in like the first year or so they were a network. It was called "Herman's Head". It starred half the people that now voice the Simpsons.

Well I want to watch a bunch of the older Pixar movies now.

As for Inside Out, it's an interesting premise, but I'm not sure if I'm really on board with it right now. But, if anyone could pull it off it would be Pixar, and with Pete Doctor directing it it has a pretty good chance of being a success.

It's like Osmosis Jones, but with emotions instead of cells and viruses
Really, it's Osmosis meets that one Episode of Teen Titans inside Raven's head.
Aww... now I want Trigon the Terrible voiced by Lewis Black...

Thanks.

I could've done without the self-congratulatory first half of that trailer. The second half looked great though, and I really like the concept.

Pretty cool also how the song they picked to play over it covers the concept of the movie as well as being a reference to Dazed and Confused. Nice one Pixar!

This teaser trailer left me with mixed emotions... I'm not sure if that was intended or not...

Other than that, just like all of the other Pixar movies, I'll probably end up watching this in theaters anyway... (and not just because Lewis Black's in it...)

Did not like the circle jerk of "how awesome we are" at all. Sounds like a cry of "yeah, we did botch up Brave and we haven't been that hot lately, but LOOK! FEELS!". Show it with new quality, not slamming me with the old glories.

The trailer itself failed horribly to hype me up for the movie. The sinopsis in the article on the other hand lifted me back up again. So yeeeeeeah, mixed at the moment is the best I can say.

Well, when the guy in charge directed Monster Inc, Up and wrote Wall E himself that's got to be a good start.

I'm certainly looking forward to this, it's not being a sequel is a great start.
