Funny how capital city raids take weeks of planning, acquisition of the best members, highly secured communication channels backed against a strong hierarchy and a whole lot of look to be successful in WoW. Whereas in WAR - a game specifically designed to show off such 'epic battles' - they take less than an hour to organise and pull off.

There's an update on this story. It turns out they didn't capture the city, just put it into a 'contention' stage but weren't powerful/numerous/prepared/whatever enough to see the contention through to full city capture.

I love how Wow fanboys are so threatened by WAR that they have to jump on their soapbox every time something about WAR is mentioned.

A lack of facts?
In MY flamebait thread?
It's more likely than you think!

I'm surprised something like this even registered as a headline on the Escapist without some sort of more indepth check as to what happened. Lock/Bury/etc.

Now that's not even true at all. Some of the city raids I've been in were just a motley crew of some of the raiding guilds who were bored one night and decided to go try and kill "Highly secured channels"? "Weeks of planning"? I'm sorry, you should have dropped your bullshit talk at the login screen, because that's what you're spouting.

And to be fair, you're jumping up in WAR's defence everytime anyone says something against it, making you look like a WAR fanboy just as bad as them.

We'd stop, but our own forums have been filled with 'WAR will kill WoW!' for so long, despite everyone knowing that they're two completely different games with different audiences. I was merely citing the irony that - despite the PVP forever being stuck in second gear - WoW pulls off an experience better when it comes to capital raids than WAR does.

I think "highly similar games with different elements emphasized" is more accurate than "completely different."

QFT. I see WAR more as WoW MkII more than anything else. It is essentially a better game, but until they work out the kinks, I'm sticking with WoW.

I may be wandering a little off topic with this, but this reminds me of what I was told about one of the online Warhammer 40K campaigns, when the Chaos forces started racking up huge numbers of planets conquered by simply all deciding "On this day, we take all of our victories on (wherever)" and outstripping the scattered Order side victories. (I forget the exact details of the campaign rules, alas)

Seems odd - why is it that the most organised and dedicated players seem to end up playing for Chaos? Still, I suppose WAR could well have a possible method of sorting itself out, if it allowed for a quick civil war between members of a side getting too powerful - even works for if Order overtook, I suppose, as any Warhammer player knows that an alliance between Dwarves and Elves is never going to last.

That's because all the kiddies play Order, cos they want to be the "Good guys". Meanwhile, all the adults play as Disorder because they know there are no good guys. Of course, this means that civil wars would work. All the adults are thinking "Yeah! Anarchy! Woo!", and the kids will get a happy over killing their best mates.

All the tweenagers are thinking "Yeah! Anarchy! Woo!"
Fixed that for you. I've yet to meet an adult who can pay for an MMO regularly who honestly think that Anarchy is a good idea.

To be honest, although I don't actually have the game, this is just a minor bug. In my opinion the game looks fantastic and to what I've heard from friends plays excellently. As everyone else here has said, this problem will be fixed very quickly and effectively.

I would get the game but there is no way I am ever going to pay subscription for any game, hell, I haven't even tried the WoW free trial cos it's pointless, I'm still not gonna get the game.

WAR does look amazing though :)

The funny bit is that I haven't even been able to play it yet since open beta. Being at sea sucks sometimes. :(
If I was a real fanboy though, I'd be attempting to trash WoW whenever possible, which I don't. I have no ire towards it, it's just not my kind of game.

And PVP oriented games like this rarely ever start out working perfectly normal. Players are sneaky assholes and will explore every avenue for breaking a game's mechanics.

Smash Bros. Brawl has taught us you don't need to play a game to be a fanboy. Like it or not, that's what you're coming across as. It kinda invalidates your points about others being a fanboy if you yourself display fanboy tendencies.

Except you once again seem to me completely dismissing the fact that I'm neither singing WAR's praises nor trashing on WoW. All I'm saying is that it gets pretty annoying trying to read a thread about something and watch it get bombed by fanboys from the other camp because they just can't help but come in and start flaming it.
It's like trying to discuss the PS3 and the XBOX fanboys coming in and completely wrecking it or vice versa. The religious ferver that one camp builds up around their chosen product is pretty sad really.

Hypocrisy much on behalf of the WAR fans? How about we count all the times somebody said "told ya it wouldn't work but we kept your spot open over here" whenever war fucks up badly and then count all the times that people deliberatly brought up wow simply so they can advertise war, the events of "yeah but war will do it better" everytime wow is brought up regardless of context and the huge ammounts of spam all over the place why your game will be better even though it isn't relevant.
