flame war prevention for pony threads

To be honest this is the first time I've posted in one of these pointless threads in a while but I'll bite. Yes you do have your own group and regardless of size there is no reason you can't have a discussion with some people in the group if you set the notifications right and just because other people make somewhat discussionless/pointless/horribly repeated and rehashed threads doesn't mean we should add to it either. Now I am going to happily go back to ignoring every single thread to do with MLP or any other thread I don't want to post in.

Just to say as a side note there is no need for some of the pony lovers to be sort of martyrs about you are far from the most reviled and picked on groups on this forum overall. Other groups or people with certain ideals have it just as bad and in some cases worse. Ponies are just popular to complain about at the moment. Also as many already a bit problem is not the fact that you like MLP the big problem is the number of people that like to draw attention that fact like it is super special awesome although thankfully that doesn't really happen to a large degree anymore.

Every person deals with things they hate.

EVERY person.

Every single, and I do mean every single person deals with it.

You are no different and not remotely deserving of special treatment.

If your anger is easily provoked by people talking about their love of a pony-centric cartoon designed for little girls, maybe the internet is not the right place for you.

Either suck it up and ignore it, or stop bringing attention to it.

You are not different.

You are not special.

You are a person.

Plain and simple.

The same as any other person.

There is a button that ignores threads dealing with subjects you dislike. My recommendation is that you use it.

The guy's just trying to come up with some admittedly good ideas that would probably benefit the Escapist as a whole, and yet, as usual, I see the same posters in here kicking up a fuss like every other thread is about ponies. I still don't understand why you waste your time coming into these threads and picking fights; what exactly are you trying to achieve? Just ignore these threads. This is the first pony-related thread I've seen in a fortnight. This is not clogging up the Hot Threads list, this is not a disproportionate use of the Off-Topic forums, and there are certainly worse topics out there at the moment. I have no real interest in Skyrim, but I don't go wading into the topics saying people should stop talking about it and stick to a User Group, even when I saw one asking people how many types of cheese they were going to eat between now and Skyrim's release. Just leave the thread alone, and it'll either fall off the main page, or actually become an intelligent discussion, like it was meant to.
See, the thing, is, I NEVER do this. I NEVER enter into 'brony' threads and decry the program, the bronies, anything about them.

I invite you to check my post history, if you like.

This, here, is the first I have weighed in on the matter.

I am not asking for special treatment, I am merely suggesting that the bronies stop thrusting their massive victim complex into my face.
That was more intended as a general announcement to everyone in this thread, I was just quoting you as I was paraphrasing your argument. The point I was trying to make is that while yes, there is a vocal minority of fans who do thrust the show onto others to the point of harrassment, for the most part we keep ourselves to ourselves. What I find ironic is that this is mirrored in people who don't like the show here: most just leave it alone, but every time I see a pony-related thread, it's the same few users throwing a hissy fit because someone had the tenacity to post a thread about something they don't like. As I said earlier, the frequency of these threads is blown way out of proportion by these people, who I'd like to venture have the same persecution complex of some of the fans. I'm just getting annoyed how, when once in a blue moon a pony-related thread with some actual discussion value in it (like the User Group Threads in this one) comes up, rather than talking about it sensibly, which I thought was the point of these forums, it gets derailed by the same users with the same (usually wrong) arguments and sweeping generalisations that apply to a myriad of other fanbases.

I am just curious but are you genuine with this line? Not to derail the rest of the argument but you are on the internet some people aren't going to do this on forums anyway and you're supposed to just ignore them if you don't want to argue. You know don't feed the trolls or something along those lines. If you can't do that you have to be willing to argue in circles a lot.

I guess I'm just being an optimist. I do think these forums are held to a higher than average standard, and it saddens me when usually level-headed users like bahumat up there start picking fights in threads they have no business in, seeing as they have nothing to add to the actual discussion. What exactly is the point in complaining about a thread or its subject matter in that thread? It's just going to bump up the very thing they don't want to see. Like I've said earlier, some people who don't like MLP bang on and on about fans having a persecution complex, whilst displaying the exact same traits themselves. I'm not here to fight, I'm simply trying to inject a bit of reason into this thread.

This set of suggestions begs the question: If one only wants to make a post accessible to the Brony community, isn't there an MLP fan site where a post would be more likely to reach the right eyes? Why post on the Escapist?
Ding ding ding. This here is the million dollar question folks.

I'm 100% sure there are sites by now that are completely dedicated to all your pony discussion needs that AREN'T this one. If you still like this site, JUST USE BOTH. This isn't rocket science guys, as a minority of the Escapist community, albeit a whiny one (with some exceptions) you aren't going to make any changes here. Just find another site to talk about ponies on and while visiting this site for everything NOT related to ponies.

EDIT: It took me all of 20 seconds to find you a god damn site to migrate to.

http://www.mlparena.com/
That is not a site for bronies. That site is for the older gens, which at least 95% of bronies hate just as much everyone else. They're really aren't any big brony sites with forums. The big brony news site just has comment streams for the news posted, and that's it. We honestly don't have anywhere to migrate to that has a decent sized community.

Sigh.

15 seconds on Google -> Type in "brony forum" -> 2 results which look like they are what I need to find for you lazy bastards -> 10 seconds to look at each site and confirm they are indeed what I need to find for you lazy bastards

All in all, 25 seconds to find you two sites which are for MLP fans and NOT for old fans.

You know what REALLY makes me mad, more than most things? Ignorance. If you're going to boldly claim that you don't have anywhere to go, make sure you're right.

Well, I'll admit, my bad. However, it's not like I've posted a pony thread myself, or any thread for that matter. I mostly just lurk in forums in general, so I wasn't qualified to make that claim.
