At first their ideas somewhat make sense but then your mind kicks in....I usually like to let other people have their beliefs but this I don't even know what to think. I don't know what else to add this is just crazy.

Although don't be so quick to throw out these crazy ideas unless you were capable of experiencing it yourself Personally I feel like creating a vast and intricate system of cameras, compasses, ridiculus amounts of ropes and lots of study time of this theory and flying from south america to africa to prove them wrong... who knows? I've been trying to get a sense of what they beleive. I read their faq and a few pages of the main discussion and I concluded the following: No one intelligent enough to disprove their absurd theories has the time or motivation to attempt to do so.

It would take hours upon hours to fully research and understand the theory, all the while trying to prevent your head from exploding while it's imploding (Which is more possible than FET) and many more hours collecting evidence and forming a logical thesis on how their Insane troll logic is completely ridiculus. However, trying to logically disprove anything they say will simply cause them to revise their theories and make up more stuff to make it impervious to your arguments.

Therefore, it is no possible to go onto that forum and try to disprove their theory since the theory will simply change as a result of that. It's like they are taunting you to try and cut water and argue that you can't because it's indestructable.

My brain hurts alot now I'm gonna mix myself a drink. Rum and vodka in beer... That aughta be nearly strong enough to kill the braincells that now contain the flat earth theory.

On topic though, these guys have been around for a long time. Well, since Aristotle I think. but this particular branch of crazy just keeps popping its head up from time to time. I mean I'm all for the freedom to believe whatever the hell you want, but gods does it get hard to stand by that belief when you just want to slap some people in the hopes that they'll wake up and read the facts that are right in front of their nose.

And to be fair, it's not just creationists which are crazy, I mean yeah, they have the Flat Earth, the WBC, and the guy whose name I cannot recall who predicted the Rapture.. twice.

But we on the other side get things like Scientology, Ron Hubbard, and Richard Dawkins, it seems any belief will give way to extremism in one way or another.

who are you that you can say the moon landing was real? the government might of faked it, dont know why, but they could of.
also, the 9/11 crashes may very well have been faked. the frame of the building could not melt from aircraft fuel like they said it did , only thermite could of. and also,the states had a reason: rally the 'mericans to agree with the government to storm the arabs for their oil. i may be wrong, you may be wrong, we will never know. only the government.

People deny perfectly logical and reasonable facts because we're more or less wired to believe in what we want to believe. If I choose to believe that the Earth is spherical, it's because that fact and the evidence supporting it don't shatter or compromise my understanding of the world as we know it.

For other people, and for reasons entirely unique to each individual, trivial details begin to pop up and take an unusual amount of importance. Everything can be disproved if you work hard enough, if you *want* to disprove it hard enough. You could rack up signs pointing out to the Moon being made out of cheese or proving the existence of lizard-men hidden amongst the powerful. You can twist calculation errors into indisputable proof that the LHC will consume us all, if you're in the right mindset.

Which is why there's simply no reasoning with these people. The only difference between a legitimate scientist and a crackpot defending an insane theory is that the scientist remains objective. The scientist is able to run into a wall and realize he's been wrong, to continue approaching his theories as flexible concepts that could change or be disproved entirely, as Science progresses.

The crackpot won't be able to bend under pressure. The crackpot's going to start drowning out the evidence debunking his own experiments in more dodgy data - the most dodgy and most easily accessible data being religious in nature.

Push the Time Cube guy, the Flat Earth believers or the Nibiru crowd hard enough, and conspiracy theories or religious arguments always come up. When the mind fails, the heart's always ready to spring into action, opposing rationality with hostility.

I agree with most of this, but disagree with the idea that scientists are objective. Scientists really like their theories too and come to intuitively believe in their truth. They are generally still superior to these crackpots, but I'm hesitant to believe that they change their minds unless confronted with overwhelming evidence. Read Jonathan Haidt's book, The Righteous Mind. It explains how no one is even close to as rational and objective as we pretend to be. So while I still trust science, I'm not going to put too much faith in the scientists themselves.
