Hello, Escapists!

The Escapist Folding@Home team Just Hit rank 10,000 out of a massive 166042 teams worldwide.
This feels like a bit of a landmark. (to me at least)

Guess how many people it took to achieve this? 8.
Out of the entire Escapist community, all of whom have working modern PCs which are useful for folding, only 8 people can be bothered to help cure diseases such as Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many Cancers and cancer-related syndromes.

Guys(and girls), surely we can do better than this?
I ask all of you, would you please run folding@home?
It runs in the backround on your computer, and won't disturb your useage unless you're gaming on your PC. If you are gaming, you can pause the client, and it won't interrupt your performance .
(also, if you are a PC gamer, your graphics card can be used with a special GPU client for extra folding power)

Again, I ask all of you to start folding. It doesn't cost anything for you to run it in the backround, and this kind of work seriously helps to find cures for so many diseases and other vital biological work.

Thanks,
thebrainiac1

Well this sounds... different
My computer can barely run two tabs at once, most of the time this results in the IE crashing and reloading, so I can't really use it.

Isn't it kind of ironic that quite a few piracy sites have folding teams in the top 100?

I cannot understand the appeal of folding whatsoever, unless you have some kind of fetish for insane electricity bills...

Folding costs nothing extra to run, as the whole point is that YOU RUN IT WHEN YOUR PC IS ALREADY RUNNING!!!!
Excuse the caps.

what the hell is folding@home anyway...
Would you check the links I already provided?
What is F@h?
Folding@home is a distributed computing project, that very simply stated, studies protein folding and misfolding.

What is protein folding?
Proteins are biology's workhorses -- its "nanomachines." Before proteins can carry out these important functions, they assemble themselves, or "fold." The process of protein folding, while critical and fundamental to virtually all of biology, in many ways remains a mystery. When proteins do not fold correctly (i.e. "misfold"), there can be serious consequences, including many well known diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many Cancers and cancer-related syndromes.

Ok, Maybe you can't run it.

Yeah, it's pretty ironic, but it happens because they're the guys who already have big organised communities who get together and start a team properly.
(like I'm trying to encourage here.)

I'm trying to figure out if I can take the HDMI cable out of the PS3 and put it in my xbox without folding closing and the ps3 switching off.
You can do it just fine, but make sure that you don't accidentally nudge the power cable while you move it.

My computer can't even run Warcraft 3 all that well, I need every part of my computing power possible.

There's a better one of these clients available through facebook which does exactly the same thing, but you get to pick who you donate your computer power to, and it automatically shuts itself off if you start doing something system-intensive, you don't have to do anything yourself at all except keep it in your startup tray. I've never used it though because computer power isn't really "free" when you own your own property and I like low electricity bills.

I do believe it has passed the point of "impled" and landed somewhere in the field of "blatant"

On the one hand, the OP does have a seemingly legitimate Escapist folding team going here, probably with a user group in that section of the site I ignore.

On the other hand, I just about challenge the team [a href=http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=userpage&username=iamnotincompliance]by myself[/a]. Pointless competition and random evil amuse me in ways I should probably get checked out expect I like being amused. I do this because my big honkin' Nvidia card is bored to tears rendering mere web pages when it could be fake New York (GTA IV, Prototype, etc) in glorious 'beyond 1080p'.

Maybe I need to work my quad-core back into the mix. The team has 5000 points on me at the moment. I'LL FIND THE CURE TO ALZHEIMER'S, CANCER, AND PARKINSON'S BEFORE YOUR TEAM YET! JUST YOU WAIT!

[small]Sarcasm makes me happy too.[/small]

Damn i've only been folding a month on a team of 1 and i'm ahead of your whole team LOL.

that's pretty sad. 1 guy w/ a PS3 & 9800GTX+ folding 8 hours a night for a month > 8 ppl on Escapist team

Yes because my PC uses the same amount of energy while browsing the internet as it does while running at full capacity and a GPU running at full clock. HURR HURR HURR HURR HURR.
Excuse the caps.

As far as you have elaborated, "Folding" seems to be this season's new euphemism for Viruses and TrojanWare in my eyes, therefore I shall look forward to seeing maroon subtitles underneath your post in regards to what moderators think of your solicitation.
It has been short but sweet, Brainiac.

Folding is perfectly safe, it has nothing to do with any malicious software.

Why?

Because it shows that internet pirates aren't the evil villians of the internet that hollywood would have you believe? : )
