ok i searched around a bit and didn't find a topic to similar to this one (i have a feeling someone will find one though)

anyway this is about the fact you can be a force user right of the off with Star Wars the old republic

so i'm going to make a prediction that 90% of players will be either jedi or sith which takes almost all the fun out of it.

i know that bioware are doing a lot of stuff to balance the them with other classes but with everyone is still going to be a force user making the whole game less about being your own character in the star wars universe and more being your own force user in a universe almost solely populated be force users or being the only person in the universe who can't use the force

anyway my point is this way of introducing the force may very well make the game way crapper than would of been i mean look what happened to star wars galaxies

so anyone else agree/disagree

i hope i'm wrong because i want TOR to be good, just think its heading in the wrong direction

If I understand your argument then I agree

The only way to get around this is to make the force either:

a)Unlockable
b)Unavailable
c)The only option (which goes against your argument I believe)

Anyway If this will bother you, don't play it.

I think Bioware is anticipating the great number of Jedi and Sith. According to the teaser trailer, it looked like the game will center on a Jedi vs Sith war.

I am going to be a Mandalorian ... assuming of course, they are present in the game

Well I'm going to be a smuggler, I think a poll is in order to find the truth of the matter!

Actually, from what I heard from this forum and others, there will be plenty of non-force users. However, I think the person who just picks up the game to try it out will immediately go force.

Likely there will be an overabundance of Jedi/Sith in the game. But, I wouldn't be surprised to see a ton of Smugglers and Bounty Hunters as well.

Personally, I'll end up being a forcee user, but that's simply because I'm a bit of a jedi fanboy minus the idiodic ranting and defense of the idea.

I don't know why all force users neccessarily have to use lightsabers.... I mean Couldn't there be a class that specialised in shooting people as well as being force sensitive?

The Mandalorians are more neutral, aren't they? They didn't really seem to pick a side of either the Republic or the Sith, and if the game is mostly going to be focusing on the those two factions at war then I don't really see them being playable.

But I might be wrong, there are still four more classes to be announced (two per faction) according to their official site so who knows what the future may hold.

At this point in time, I'm going to be playing a Bounty Hunter. Wrist mounted flamers and wrist mounted rocket launchers=awesome.

I'm going to be a bounty hunter probably, although if the release another class even more aweosome I may play that, I would probably play jedi later on in the game since I suspect it to be more fun.

I think the Mandalorians wil be aligned with the Sith on this one. Weren't they doing the blockade of the core worlds?
While the Mandalorians have allied with the Sith in the past (such as when Ulic Qel-Droma royally smacked down Mandalore the Indomitable), at this juncture in the Star Wars time I'm fairly certain they are leaderless and thus have no banner to rally behind, therefore meaning they operate as little more than mercenaries, pirates and brigands. They may have Mandalorian Mercenary as a class for the Sith; I suppose that is possible. However I don't think it's terribly likely.

Though I shouldn't try to second guess Bioware. It's their game after all and they can do whatever the hell they like with it :p

You know, I looked it up again, assuming TOR is 300 years or so after the events of the KotOR games which I'm fairly certain I remember reading, then there would indeed be a Mandalorian army allied with the Sith which means that if Bioware stick to the mythos it's all too possible that there could be a Mandalorian class of some variety.

Wouldn't that be like saying mages are bad in WOW? That everyone will want to be one. I think what they will end up doing is making a low level Sith or Jedi useless (like a low level D&D mage). Sure if one was to invest the time and mental energy to the character they eventually become Gods. Where the bounty hunter will start off more powerful but will hit the ceiling alot faster than the Jedi would.

I strongly disagree with this statement since I'm a veteran of playing D&D mages from 1-epic. Low levels take some working, yes, but they're hardly worthless. Jedi and sith also seem to have some strong differences, with the Sith being able to use more offensive force abilities and the Jedi being more apt to use buffs and healing abilities.

Sorry useless was the wrong word. The point is a fighter starts with 12 hp (with no Con bonus) where a wizard has 4hp. A fighter can use a variety of weapons where a wizard has 2. A staff for 1D6 and a dagger for 1D4. And lvl 1 spells even you gotta admit aren't all that great. Sure mage armor is a must but you are just eating up space needed for an offensive spell like Magic Missile.

As for the differences between Sith and Jedi I just don't see it. Not in terms of powers anyways. I don't think there is much stopping a Jedi from learning force lightning since both sides seem to be drawing power from the same source.

A few problems with this, again.

For one, you would use an ability like Mage Armor to keep your ass alive. The argument about using spells like Magic Missile falls on a small amount of failure since, at the level that you'd be using Mage Armor in the first place, you should be using other, more effective spells. To top your argument, your typical mage, using the 3.5 rules, can use crossbows as a decent ranged weapon, considering, of course, that they're not an elf who decides that longswords and bows are better.

Back to the topic of Sith vs Jedi, however, I do see your argument; however, given the history that both Bioware and Obsidian has shown, dark side powers will likely be more difficult for a Jedi to use, and vice versa.

Magic Missile was the first offensive lvl 1 spell I could think of. Again it would depend on the situation. And what spells he has memorized in the first place. With a measly 4 hp even ranged combat can be deadly for a wizard. 1 arrow and a lucky roll could incap him.

I really hope they include a way to switch if you want. To go from Jedi to Sith or vice versa. With penalties of course.

I'm lookin at Trooper for my class... thing is they haven't released any gameplay footage of em yet.... but they did state that really big guns were something for troopers... and that troopers like to make things explode... so it's kinda a no-brainer for me, I love explosions and large guns... so i choose trooper...

also when they're done i don't think everyone will be so enamoured by lightsabers to swing the balance too terribly much...
