I listen to Russian and Japanese music on a regular basis. True, most of the Russian I listen to is solely because of Vladivostok FM, but that's beside the point.

A very small amount of J-pop, and Spanish rock.
Seriously, Spanish rock kicks ass. The language seems to flows so much better then English does.

Music is music. The lyrics are merely 1 part of it. Even if you don't understand the language, good music should be able to convey the emotion behind the song, be it something to bolster the spirit or invoke a specific feeling.

What the hell do you mean by "foreign music?" Music is music, man. Although I will say that most of the music I've heard from outside America trumps the music we have here pretty easily. At least recently speaking.

Our music is just the same bullshit over and over.

Im listening to some very melodic German folk metal right now. They're called Equilibrium and all the lyrics are in German, but then again I would hardly be able to understand them in English anyway.

^Equilibrium is a great band, if you like them check out Korpiklaani and Kylahullut. Finnish folk metal and Finnish hardcore punk/melodic metal.

I listen to Falconer who is sweedish folk metal, and I love their songs in sweedish. Also I enjoy blind guardian.

I enjoy listening to foreign bands because I enjoy learning and speaking other languages and listening to their music helps get a feel for their culture.

I see the voice as an instrument. Sometimes it'll play something I understand, other times not. If it sounds good to me I'll like it either way. Hell, much of black metal is unintelligible so that could be in another language. The same goes for Sigur Ros, Rammstein and anything really.
I agree with this. I usually don´t pay much attention to lyrics (except in cases like Dylan, Drake or Cash, where stories are all that matter) and regard them as one of the instruments. Just let the sound paint the story for you, as is the case with Oldfield´s music. I actually enjoy listening to Japanese singing, despite the fact that they might as well be insulting my mom for all I know (incidentally, why not giving Yonin-Bayashi a shot).

We have quite versatile, and not so unknown (Nightwish, Apocalyptica anyone), musical field here, but most of my favourite bands are still foreign. That being said, I will conclude this namedropping by introducing you to one of my Finnish favourites YUP. Enjoy, if you can.

In spite of my recent failures in trying to spawn discussions, Ive decided to give it another go.
Ive seen a few threads dedicated to music. Most of them pertaining to rock or metal or the like.
Ive decided to move in a different direction, foreign music. Do you like to listen to it? If you do, why? What languages do you enjoy the most, and what genres? Or do you listen to foreign music at all?
I love to listen to foreign music, especially J-rock and J-pop. Yes, I know, its weird. Dont give me crap about it. I also have quite a bit of French and German rap, along with alot of German Rock. I do listen to some hispanic rock, but not a whole lot. I like music in differnt languages, its almost like the music moves more fluidly. Even though I dont understand the lyrics, I can still get a feel for the emotions being expressed.
So, why or why dont you listen to music in different languages?

EDIT: alright, sorry for the misunderstanding, I guess I forgot Im on the internet. I meant music in different languages.
I don't listen to it.

It's unpatriotic.

Its really not that weird. I know a bunch of people (most of them are gamers for some reason..) who are into J-music. Not to mention all my girlfriends sisters friends (most of whom study japanese at uni.) I myself have been known to partake in some Maximum the hormone and Pink Panda. Appart from that, I love Reggae and Latin music.

Swedish

I'm not entirely sure what constitutes foreign here. I would instantly reply Led Zepplin and AC/DC; but given what the OP said i believe in spirit you mean "things in other languages" and/or "a genre that doesn't really exist in your country"

in that case; yes

Their concerts are amazing too. Never have I seen more people crying than when Sigur Ros played All Alright as their second encore.
I can imagine. Unfortunately thats best I can get for now. Kept missing them the last few times they came near here, and they're not touring for a while. Doubt they'd be supporting Radiohead when they do either. Probably a good thing as a gig like that would leave me an emotional wreck for weeks.

Spot on about the lyrics too. The voice is just an instrument if all its carrying to you is a tune. And with Sigur Ros I'm not sure there are words that could fit in without being detrimental. I'll just have to make a point to never learn icelandic.

I recommend Sigur Ros. Their "gibberish" is simply the best sounding gibberish the world has seen, and their live shows are amazing, a bit like Maju Maná (can't remember how to spell that)

Also, SodaStereo, Los Auténticos Decadentes and Los Pericos. Particularly LAD and Los Pericos. I urge you to listen to them.

Well, technically, nearly all the music I listen to is foreign, Australia not having a very large music scene.
I do hope you are joking.
Not really.
I'm speaking comparatively. I listen to an absurd amount of music, most of it from overseas. One of my favourite bands at the moment is Australian though... and they have yet to even release an EP.
