Why? After having bought FortressCraft out of curiosity I think the game is complete crap, basically a shit version of Minecraft Classic which can be played for free in the first place.

That said, even though it is selling well a clone is still a clone and I don't think it would be able to compete with the original were Minecraft ever to hit Xbox live. Something tells me that the only real reason FortressCraft is selling so well is that Xbox owners just want a Minecraft style game on their console.
Pretty much this. The game is laggy glitchy and just all around bad. Also, putting relics in a random 1x1x1 hole underground? Who told youy that was a good idea?

The argument that FortressCraft is justified because Notch didn't release Minecraft on console perplexes me. Bear in mind that it is *still in beta*, and we all know how draconian the XBLA and PSN can be when it comes to updates and files...

Fortresscraft, a Minecraft clone? Well I know let's see what the Public Relations team for Fortresscraft has to say about that statement!

Well, he certainly seems like one happy chappy, I think I'll stick with Minecraft...
Ughhhh I hate people so much. That's not the actual creator of FortressCraft, but some guy named DJ Keemstar who calls himself "XBOX LIVE'S NUMBER ONE TRASH TALKER. NUMBER ONE MOST SUBSCRIBED ON BLOGTV. NUMBER ONE ASSHOLE." If the creator of FortressCraft is stupid enough to hire that tool bag, then the game deserves all the hate it's getting and more.

Also, DJ Keemstar is just the "PR" guy and owns 30% of FC. Looks like everyone's ripping everyone off.

Number one trash talker...seriously what the fuck is wrong with people.

1) It doesn't matter if it is a clone. Minecraft is a puts pressure on the creators lazy asses to put more features in the game to stay fresh.
They created A huge game and you call them lazy if you read notches blog you will see that he works on it every day
Yeah the game they (he) made is great and deserves its popularity. I also am not asking that he makes more stuff if he doesn't want to. He has contributed a lot to the gaming Zeitgeist (if there is such a thing).

BUT! When you are in a competitive industry and there is millions of dollars on the line you need to continue keeping your game(/s) innovative and new. The recent patches to Minecraft have added very little and sometimes they even screw up the multi-player experience forcing those who have servers to recreate things for damage control purposes. With the money he has earned, he could have hired many more people for his company if he wanted Minecraft to truly blow minds.

But he didn't, he has decided to keep it small. That's fine. Nothing wrong with that. But it now means that when a big competitor comes into play his meager updates might pale in comparison to a larger company able to drop some serious $$$ on 'innovation'.

Note: I'm not saying the Minecraft clone creator is 'A big competitor' but the fact that it has gotten onto XBLA must have some weight to it.

All of this is speculative of course, Fortresscraft could turn out to be utter shit and in terrible hands. But there is nothing wrong with a little competition. This is a good thing and was bound to happen eventually anyway.

EDIT: Also, you misquoted me.

"And besides, competition is a good thing. It forces the companies to price their games competitively and also puts pressure on the creators lazy asses to put more features in the game to stay fresh."

That's what I said. I didn't specifically talk about Minecraft in that sentence, I was talking about competition in general.

i just can't stand seing those xbox avatars anymore after the "future of PC gaming" video microsoft shat out. couple that with a shameless cash in rip off of minecraft. that just makes me wanna build my own operatingsystem out of duct tape and string and forget microsoft forever.
Sorry, I don't think I understand the problem?

The Avatars have done well in the new Kinect-friendly Xbox dashboard and given how popular Kinect has proven, it seems like it might have been a good plan now, no?

Additionally, how is it Microsoft's fault that somebody's written a Minecraft clone? They're only providing the development tools. It's it Apple's fault there are so many fart apps available for iPhone? No. So what're you whining about Microsoft for?

This isn't available in Britain for some bizarre reason, I haven't seen any reason given for why either.
That's strange. Me and several British friends have bought it with no problems. Is your xbox set to a different region for some reason?

You could say Fc is a clone of mc. You could also say some console fps' are counterstrike clones. Thing is, for whatever reason it may be, mc is not on 360 or psn...yet. Basically, you can't really complain about a game being a clone of something not available on that platform. Sure, if you have a pc that can run minecraft, you've probably already bought it, but with such a popular game not coming onto consoles for some while yet, it was in a way, inevitable, that someone would step in with an alternative.

I also feel the need to remind people that despite the two games fanbases going rabid at each other, fc's twitter seems to suggest that notch and projectorgames are approaching this rivalry with a mutual respect for each others work that should serve as an example next time ea and activision (etc) have the PR equivalent of a slappy fight.

This debate, however, is secondary to me. I heard yesterday from an mc playing friend that notch is planning to move mc out of beta soon. This, as I understand it, would make release via xbla a possibility, due to microsofts rules regarding updates making big updates to the beta difficult. So, we could see mojang racing to get Fc onto consoles, while projectorgames races to get all the chapters of fc out.

Things could be about to get very interesting.

Edit:

In fact, whine some more, its actually quite funny. I will never understand fanboy loyalty
I know right. They seem to believe they need to defend minecraft.

OT, I would have got this by now, if you didn't need to have an "adult" account on xbox live to download it. Stupid system.

As Notch is on record as saying Minecraft was a clone of Infiniminer I'm not sure he has anything to complain about.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9t3FREAZ-k
Infiniminer was an unfinished game, that isnt like minecraft. I actually heard it was open source, so he used that engine to make minecraft.

Portal uses the the same source as Half-life, i wouldnt call it a ripoff. On the other hand, if someone came out with a game called Portholes, where you shoot to PortHoles to jump through....
i doubt people would defend it, despite Portal similiarities to Half Life
Even though Portal and Half Life are made by the same company... -_-

OT: I love Minecraft but seriously its not a original idea so yes its kind of a knockoff. It doesn't matter if it was open source blah blah the point is Notch took the idea and made it better. These guys took DwarfFortress and saw how smooth the Minecraft engine was and used it.

Who cares if they're similar? A Minecraft on Xbox? Thats F'ing sweet if you ask me.

How can anyone NOT run minecraft? It can run well on a bloody dual core laptop with a hd2400 that's weaker than the worst laptops you can buy nowadays o_O If you can't run minecraft you probably can't run half the adverts that appear on the internet.

I don't think I'd mind so much if it were an attempt to refine the ideas in Minecraft. Instead it appears to be a hastily made copy of an already popular game produced in order to print money.

Still, Notch doesn't seem the type to mind this sort of thing. He seems to take things in his stride.

Besides, I predict that if Minecraft gets ported to XBLA, they'll take that market share back pretty quick. It's a superior product with strong brand recognition among its target audience.

Actually, portal was made bya different group of people at first, and then valve took them in. I guess you dont understand my point, or know how any of these games are made.

Im hoping to be a videogame designer, so i dont think these games are just found on the ground or picked from trees. People make them with ideas. And if I finally finish my game, and i think its great and everyone else thinks it greats......
it would make me sad if someone just remade my game for the xbox and sold it as his own. Maybe you dont know what its like to make something......

I don't understand it....

Fortresscraft is inferior to the free version of minecraft in every conceivable way. Why is this so popular?

Never actually played FortressCraft because I own and am happy with my PC copy of Minecraft.

But hey, Minecraft isn't on Xbox so spread the minecraft love to all!

Actually, I'll go and download the trial and see how it stacks up to Minecraft.

Oh I do. I make my own music from classical to electronic and i've come across a few kids who put it on their youtube pages and claim its theres. But thats a straight rip off. Idk I just don't see the big deal here in this certain situation.
