Hey guys!

I found a native frog while I was watching my new puppy get adjusted to our yard.
I've put it in a Chinese container filled with 1cm of water and put an air hole in the top, it's also covered with a towel and in a dark place.

Until WIRES calls me back, what else can I do to keep it safe and well?

(In Australia btw)

EDIT: To everyone saying put it back where I found it, I cant. The new puppy will eat it.

Dude, you actually touched one of our frogs? Hospital would probably be the best option.

Um, well other than trying to find some food for it, I can't really see what else you can do, other than just setting it free into some nearby wetlands or a pond or something

Is 1cm high enough to cover it? It would be best if you have some deep water for it to swim in and a small island of gravel or dirt that it can sit on.

Or it will die..=(
I would but the WIRES site says definatley dont feed it =S
Yea, don't. If it gets stressed out, it can puke up it's intestines...
And that's a mess you don't want in your chinabox.

Zidane, I catch some frogs?

My brother caught a frog in his garden, showed it around and let it go. I wanted to keep it and call it Stampy.

Frogs can survive for a LONG time without sustenance. Their metabolism (apart from jumping) uses very little energy. And I'm sure if WIRES is anything like the RSPCA, they know what they're talking about.

Are you stuck in the Everglades? If so then Bear Grylls advises that you eat it.

If you are not stuck in the everglades, release it maybe?

I'm a native wildlife rehabilitator (Aussie as well), and to be honest if you found it in your yard that's most likely where it's chosen to live and you're best off letting it stay if you can (Dogs rarely care to eat/attack frogs, especially if kept well fed). Moving it won't stop it from returning, as once a frog has chosen it's home it will travel immense distances to get back if moved. It's really hard for me to give you better advice if you can't give me some information what your yard/property is actually like (rural area, city, flat, etc).

If the frog is actually injured then that will change things entirely and I can give you information on how to pass it on to a carer or if you wish; to care for it yourself until it can be released (if it can be).

EDIT: Quick note, try to avoid handling it as frogs are delicate and can suffer from stress issues, aside from stress touching it will do no harm to either of you so long as you keep your hands clean (frogs absorb nutrients and the like through their skin, so things like soap, scum, etc, on your hands will do them harm). Some say that your bodily oils do damage to the frog, however this is pure bullshit. At least with all the frogs that live in Australia anyway.
