I've never seen the show but after seeing the advert for it every 5 minutes for a month, with the same agonizingly un-funny scenes, I'd never want to.
Shit, annoying adverts mean I'll never watch the show.
Also, fuck canned laughter.
Raising Hope doesn't use canned laughter.

Unless you mean canned laughter in general. In which case I am firmly on board with fucking it.

I have a pretty hard time being remotely interested in this show with the premise it's based on. I've never found serial killers to be something worth joking about or taken lightheartedly. But most Americans seem to think serial killers are just fantastic sources of plot devices. Maybe we can have some sympathetic rapists, torturers and cannibals on down the line, everyone's got those in their family!

Over here in Oz, Channel Ten has been airing every episode of Raising Hope. It's fair to say that they will continue to do so.

Nice to see a show that evaded the Firefly Effect. At least for now.

For those who dont know about the Firefly Effect heres an informational link to TVTropes:

Enjoy

Raising Hope is frickin' hilarious, so I am glad that it got renewed. Never watched Lone Star, but I like Running Wilde...darn.

raising hope is funny, but it has never been "re-watch funny". i always download my shows, and with two and a half men, archer, family guy, glee, HIMYM, big bang, community, ect, i usually re-watch several times (dramas i do not unless i miss something. they get progressively worse every time you watch them) but raising hope has not had that effect on me. i have not had an urge to re-watch it, thus, i could honestly care less. hopefully it gets better. either way, next year new comedys are coming, thus i have hope.

Deadline quotes Fox Entertainment president Kevin Reilly as gushing, "Raising Hope has emerged as a comedic standout: wickedly smart, hilarious and full of heart...Greg Garcia and his great cast have established an appointment show on Tuesday nights this season and we're confident it's just the beginning of great things to come."
Before later adding, "That's why we're pleased to be fast-tracking this show towards it's mid-season cancellation in the fall."

Interesting to see The Escapist adding some TV coverage to its news lineup - of course "Walking Dead" got its fair share of attention, but that's firmly in the nerd camp. I like the wider range of topics Elizabeth's adding - very curious to see where it goes.

As to "Raising Hope?" Don't watch it, have no plans to, everyone should watch "Community" if they watch one network sitcom. "Parks and Recreation" if you watch two.

-Throw a random collection of shows in random time slots
-Cancel all of them

Oh Fox, never change....actually, for the love of God, change.

A lot of My Name is Earl was apparently allegory for becoming a scientologist. The revelation has soured me on re-watching.
Where did you read that? I knew that several of the cast were scientologists, but I don't really see the allegory.

i'm still really, really pissed off about the end of My Name Is Earl. Not only did a very funny show die, but that cliffhanger...rarr...

I think I know what ad you're talking about. It's terrible, I agree, and isn't at all indicative of the show.

Earl (what's his name) said it. It was all about how the revelation of Scientology was like coming out of a coma but he thought, rightly, that people would avoid his show if it was about scientology so they called it Karma.

Yeah, I meant in general, it's not clear at all in my post.

Yeah sorry, I meant canned laughter in general but it's not clear in my post. It's the ad with the fat girl in the catsuit? And there's a few other things in there as well. Someone in advertising fucked up, ads are supposed to draw people into the show!

I was going to say how there's so much quality shows on that it's hard to watch them all next to work and gaming. And how that's not good for new shows fighting for ratings.

But then I saw this massive Captcha beneath my post.
Did we actually get that much spam on the Escapist?
