Fox news goes at it with Duke Nukem Forever's "Capture the Babe" mode

Seriously I love how it says 'has gamers in an uproar'. What?
Since When?
Fox give me one gamer, that is old enough to play this game, that is complaining and I don't mean a 35 year single mum that plays bejeweled and farmville at work.

I love the part where she says this is harmful to young woman. Because this idiot thinks that we are all sheep, and that all men will become Duke Nukem impersonators and all twin asain girl his willing whores.

Its like Inception with Irony. The first level of irony is the game itself, lampooning the idea of manliness. The next level is Fox blasting the game not because anyone of them really cares, but only because it gets their demographic in a froth. The last level is that people think that what we see in video games is what we become in real life, when pretty much everyone is able to separate the video game worlds we frequent from reality.

It's so tiring how movies and TV can show strippers and prostitutes in all kinds of circumstances, but videogames can not...

And then comes all the yapping about how videogames are interactive and when you DO something your more likely to repeat it than if you watch something. I don't buy it.
But they wouldn't make a fuss over this if it happened in one of those crappy 'YOU are the hero!!' books :L

Meh. Personally I love how 'objectifying women' is awful in games but there are entire industries that run on it. Anything to do with fashion and/or beauty revolves around creating different 'ideal women' and forcing women to try to aspire to that model.
Then they change it again and again and guess what, each time, they have to buy new shit to make the change and buy more magazines so they can keep up on what is 'ideal' at the moment...

THAT is all fine with fox though, amirite? I bet video games never made someone feel so bad that they became anorexic...

Baaaahh.

Meh if i had epic muscles and spent my time gunning down hideous monsters I'd hope it would help pick up chicks, but I don't think anyone is deluded enough to feel like because they've done it in a videogame they are instantly God's gift to womankind IRL...

Looks like Fox news is at it again.
...it's actually pretty unbiased in its content. The only questionable part is its existence in the first place, honestly.

I'll admit, it made me rage.

These depictions of women are extremely harmful, especially to young women
How the hell does that harm them? You have to be some kind of doll with no free will to let that have any effect over your thoughts. Playing the old one never made me want to become a stripper and how dare they think people are that weak minded! Besides shouldn't they target something beyond digital and focus on stopping porn stars or suggestive ads and movies or something? Which both of those ideas are ridiculous so why should games be targeted (besides the fact they're new so 'old' people don't understand them)?

I'd be a lot more worried if a Duke Nukem game didn't offend Fox News and objectify women. I mean... that's the whole point of the series, right?
You left out the shooting aliens bit.

If anyone actually bothered to read the article, Fox actually don't give it the amount of shit a lot of people were expecting it to. They essentially just called the Duke Nukem games sexist, which, let's be honest, they are.

Still slightly depressing that a "news" group has nothing better to do than to talk about a game...

I believe Penny Arcade said it best with this comic. Sorry its in link form, I have no idea how to embed stuff from their site.

I have to agree with you on this one.

People are so offended by sexual images, but engaging in murder is viewed as normal. If it were the reverse, at LEAST things would appear logical. Of course it'd be nice if they were all just considered (im)mature content and not criticised.

Yes, Duke Nukem is chauvinist, that's sort of the point. I wouldn't want anyone under 15 to be playing it since they wouldn't see the irony laced throughout the game's content. It's a social satire, therefore it is mature content.

Yeah but there's still some small doses of "we need to make this seem worse than it really is, for ratings"
I can't disagree there, though given the chance, I'm sure plenty of other news stations/publishers whatever would do exactly the same thing. If you can make old people frown by telling them times are changing (which you always can), you're guaranteed views.

Fox, shut the fuck up. You seem to think games are 100% children toys, when they aren't. This game was NEVER intended for children to even LOOK at.

Plus if this results in people trying to get this game banned, a game we have been waiting for for 12 years, believe me, we will NOT be happy.
