If you are new to shooters I would say that Halo as a series is a good logical choice as these days many shooters in some way copy it. So if you are getting started then this is a good choice.

Halo series, hands down.
Only, like I said in the post...I don't have an Xbox or a 360. Which means a big ol' no for Halo.

Plus, I watched my little brothers playing Halo for a while a couple years ago, and that put me completely off FPSes. It did less than nothing for me.

If you are after a good story in a game then allow me to be the first here to say that in my experience most recent shooting games with admirable stories are either lackluster in the pacing or gameplay or have a story that is largely based on suprises or twists (or is horribly delievered).

If you want a story then watch a film, read a book or play an RPG or adventure game, if you want fast paced action with little afterthought then by all means pick up a copy of any good shooter game.

That's a bit of a generalization, despite what people say, the halo series has an extensive, well thought out story.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
Resistance: Fall of Man
Those are the only ones I can recommend so far...

I did a search already and didn't see anything that quite matched, so.

I've never really played any FPSes, aside from one I played at an arcade with a friend from time to time a couple years ago, and have decided to give the genre a shot before blowing it off as "random shooting at things."

Do any of y'all have any suggestions for a good FPS that has a solid story behind it? If I can't get into the story (for the record, I love JRPGs), then I probably won't get into it unless it has truly amazing graphics. I was thinking about getting Resident Evil 5, because for all it's "survival horror" it seems a lot more like "shoot zombies until they are dead" to me.

I have a PS2 and PS3, so Halo's out. And once again, for anyone who misses it, NO HALO. I don't have an Xbox and have no plans on getting one, either.

My comp is also a laptop and a Mac, so I don't use it for gaming.
Don't rule out Halo: Combat Evolved, there is always the demo for the Mac:
