Freelancer but it isn't a series.

I used to defend Pokemon in such a manner but the current direction in monster design isn't impressing me.

Freelancer continues the canon of Starlancer, a similar game without the trading and more like a sci-fi action flight simulator (Fuck, I love that game). So I guess it sort of is a series. If you haven't played Starlancer, then do because it's pretty good.

I hate to say the Elder Scrolls. It just feels like I'm insulting someone... Because I'm 15, I've only played Morrowind and Oblivion, both of which I loved. But purely because I cannot find them I haven't played Daggerfall or Arena. It's depressing that my favourite game 'series' is one of the only game series' that I've never played from the start.

Baldur's Gate is really the only one for me. I'll defend Shin Megami Tensei and Touhou too, but games are still being made in those series and there is always a slight chance that they might not be good.

Probably Halo. Maybe? If they're comparing it to Captain Bland's Brown Mud Shooty Gun Adventure anyway. Although I'd definitely defend Total War games, and I mean "pre ETW" because ETW and NTW aren't considered games in my book.

OT: Golden Sun. The first two games were the greatest RPG's I have ever played (except FFX, but the gameplay isn't similar enough to draw too many relevant comparisons). I can just imagine how orgasmifying they would have been with PS3 graphics ... well actually I can't, because I imagine they would be such great games that they would be beyond my imagination.

GS is awesome, but I've never had to defend it against anyone. Probably from lack of anyone but me caring, but whatever.

I've had to once or twice against Halo-players whom I've tried to introduce to the old-school graphics of Golden Sun, but apart from that the only people I know who've played it loved it.

Old school? GS graphics are beautiful, especially the hand-drawn backgrounds in the fights. To hell with photorealism!

It's hard to think of any franchises that I would defend. It seems that the more games that a franchise releases, the higher the odds that they will release a poor game. eg Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid (AC!D), Mario, Sonic, Rayman, Street Fighter, Bioshock ... etc.

However I am happy with the Pokemon main RPGs (well so far anyway), Gran Turismo and Professor Layton.
