For a long time my friend in university has been trying to get me to go to superdickery.com which is a database of how many times Superman has been...well...a dick. I highly advise any reader go to that site if you are in need of a good laugh(and yes that stuff is legit!). So this brought an interesting question to my mind that I now ask the Escapist community.

Have you ever adored a Superhero or some kind of icon(be it musician, etc.) only to come to hate them when you realize that they are actually not all they're cracked up to be?

Used to like Captain America. And not really care about Iron Man.

Then came the fucking Civil War plotline. And they both took huge hits.

I now hate both of them.

On the positive side, the more I learn about Ms. Marvel, the more I like her.

No, I don't idolize superheros or really much of anyone. I just roll through life and enjoy it as I need; I don't need a role model for that.

I always thought superman was a lazy dick. But no, my dreams of role models are never shattered because I don't have any. I want to live my life to the fullest being myself.

I liked Iron Man up until Civil war. then he became a huge asshole. You know what no Marvel in general is kind of this ever scince they Killed off Cap (even though he got better) to me especially now that theyve made Frank Castle into Frank-en Castle. (would have been a fantastic What if? story but not as a new arc)

I never said 'idolize' I said 'adored'. You can still like someone(real or fiction) a good deal only to be disappointed when their true colors come out.

It's about the same thing. Just the same, I've not gotten to the point of adoring someone like a 'hero.'

Hm, like most Green Bay Packers fans I could say Brett Favre. Not the greatest choice from my opinion but it's the only one I can think of right now.

He was getting too old, IMO. It starts to stretch reality sooner or later.
yeah but Blue beatle gets to be a legacy hero while The Punisher has to become frankenstein to stay in the game? And Age is retarded in the Marvel universe Nick Fury has been around scince like WW2 because of some serum he drank or whatever and spideys been 17-24 scince the fucking 60's.

I used to idolize ghandi. but after about 3 seconds i hated myself so much i punched myself in the face. glad i got that out of my system. Ghandi, not punching myself in the face, deffinitely the lesser of two evils.

I used to like Spiderman and Batman. And those are still the only 2 superheroes I like.

So nope.

Fun fact: they're also both furries.

I only really idolize some of the Kamen Riders, who are still wonderful even when they're assholes. They even saved us from Starfish Hitler.

Well... I wouldn't say HATE, but I was VERY disappointed after learning a few things...
First, that there were no such thing as saiyans, and I remember this one movie where some guy (I think Jet Li) was spinning his hands inside of like a barrel of water, then it was like a tornado or w/e, then the barrel broke. I remember trying that SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many times XD

Err...

The closest I came is hating what Sam Raimi did to Venom in Spiderman 3.
Venom himself is just badass.

Ben Cousins was my hero. And then he became a druggie, and was still my hero. Then he changed teams to Richmond.

Now my heroes are the God-damn Batman and Magikarp.

Most characters get moved up (Spidey now was created in 80s or 90s I believe), BB is DC, and the never mess with Castle's age, it's always progressing. Personally, I think they should have done a crossover with some other universe and had him get something to counteract the aging. Hell, have him go to the Buffyverse and either become a vamp and quickly get his soul back or something (I didn't list what the Mayor did since what he did was sell his soul). Think for a moment, it could have Punisher be forced to team up with Spike. I'd pay to see that. Besides, a Punisher Vampire would spell all kinds of doom for criminals. Super strength means no recoil, as your arms can easily handle it. No breathing means you can use all kinds of gas weapons without worry. Besides, how many crooks would know at A he's a vampire, and B would have anything able to kill him. The only one that could accidentally dust him is destruction of the head, and he's avoided that for 30 years already.
Yeah I never got into Buffy (even though I like some of Wheedons other stuff) but then they would still be messing with the punisher it just ticks me off that a lame asshole like Blue Beatle gets to become a legacy hero and the Punisher has to get turned into a movie monster for him to be "on the same level with everyone else" despite being able to gun down many a supervillain and kill a super powered nigh invulnerable russian with his bare hands. I dont know maybe Id be less fuming if it wasnt a lame ass character (Daken Wolverines evil Bisexual son who in every story just reads like every bad fan fic ever) who did him in. (And Spidey was made in the 60's his first appearance was in 1962)
