Free hugs!

Hey everybody.

I recently came across this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vr3x_RRJdd4.

The man in the video is Juann Mann. He set out with one simple goal. To make people feel better.

He started this by standing in the middle of a mall, with a sign simply reading "free hugs". Now, most of you will probobly be thinking that it is some sort of scam. But, it really isn't.
All he wanted, was to give strangers hugs to make them feel better, and to make the world a better place. At the start no one gave him a hug, then more and more people started just randomly hugging him. In the end he had achieved his goal and still continues to try and make the world a friendlier place.

This inspired me to do the same thing, so i got a pen and paper, and i put the words "free hugs" on the paper. And i went out into the middle of Dublin. Just holding that sign. I barely got any hugs, but i still felt good after doing it.

So, my question to you, is have you ever done a selfless deed. Purely to make others feel better? Or did you do in just to try and make the world a better place?

Also, what do you think about the man in the video, Juann Mann? Do you think he is crazy, do you think he is doing the right thing?

there were two people in town a few months ago giving free hugs and no-one did it. i went for it and got a free hug which cheered me up immensely, then loads of people started doing it. it was awesome.

God, I'm socially awkward. Would you believe that I've seen people around with the "Free Hugs" signs, but I avoided them only because I'm afraid they'll take one look at me and for some reason abruptly change their minds and run away?

(Hey, similar things have happened. I once went to a Raelian seminar and the guy was hugging and shaking the hands of everyone who walked in. When I got up he just nodded at me, then hugged the next guy.

Not that I need a crazy cultist touching me. But it's like that Seinfeld when the carpet cleaners' cult wouldn't ask George to join. WHATS WRONG WITH ME???)

I really like the idea of free hugs! hugs do make a huge differance.

I gave this homeless guy some money, i didn't care if he would have used it for drugs (if he was addicted to something) but I feel that was my good deed. I still talk to him every now and then to cheer him up. =]

I found one of these signs at the Big Day Out one year. It is by far the most powerful object in the universe, as EVERYBODY hugged me

Someone did this at my college. I thought it was a neat idea. Then I got my own idea: Make a sign that says "Hugs: Cheap" with different dollar amounts crossed out until $0.25 is the only number left. Then sit on the curb with a sad look on my face glaring at the "free hugs" guy.

I enjoy doing things that transform a space. Improv Everywhere is a good example of the kind of things I like to do. "Frozen in Grand Central Station" is a great example, or "Look Up More".
