I have mixed opinions about the whole thing, but feel that it is ultimatly a fairly balanced system even with the criticism. The alternative of putting everything in the direct hands of the goverment would be worse. As far as the Federal Reserve making a "profit" I believe the idea is that the profit it makes is put away for the next time it needs to come into play.

I have not followed it closely enough to say whether it's good or bad, but on paper at least the idea makes a certain amount of sense, and is in keeping with our system of checks and balances. Also, like many systems, it largely comes down to a question of "how else do you do it?" any alternative system is likely to have equal drawbacks, and a lot of other workable ideas would not fit in with our ideals of capitolism.

As far as some of the unusual desicians being made, well we live in an unusual time of economic crisis. If there were simple, perfect desicians to be made to fix the current problems there would be no crisis. Only time will tell whether the right things are being done. Looking back on things hindsight is always 20/20. We don't have the benefit of looking back on this from the future, only the abillity to make guesses right now, and for every desician on this level there are going to be tons of people being critical with differant ideas, and chance are if any plan fails someone being critical of it would have been right just by the numbers, but that doesn't mean that the best seeming solution was not employed when the desicians were first being made.

Last time I checked you are a Capitalist nation.... 'Capital' being chief.

Who can make capital better the Gov't or business?

I'll give you a clue, Gov't cant even spend money correctly. Every country has a central bank, the difference between say the US and the British is the amount of Gov't control.

Lets not forget that even though times are bad now, in just over a year the price of the Pound to US has dropped 50c.... from 2.15$ - 1gbp to closing 1.45$ - 1gbp, sounds like the reserve and your banking institutions are working well?
I'm sure that has everything to do with the fed being better run than the BoE than say, the US dollar being the world reserve currency? Seriously with the amount of debt the US is in, if it wasn't the reserve currency it'd be bankrupt ages ago...

And it's the reserve currency because it was the strongest standing economy after WW2, because Europe was screwed big time. Let's not forget that.
I am not sure if you are trying to argue with me? I haven't even brought up anything to do with the currecny reserve?

I was mearly commenting on the feeling that somehow because the Gov't has no control of the fed (minus over sight) that it is a fascist state....

Fascism is generally whatever the fuck it wants to be. Generally if you're an intolerant authoritarian douchebag you can probably be a fascist.

Anyhow America is screwed because we treat our workers like shit and let the CEOs rob the coffers... you know because business people are all shining examples of hard work and morality... and giant coke parties

Banks? We let them get so big that if even one fails we're fucked! But god forbid the gubment keeps an eye on these idiots.

Oh and the government? They're all paid off and hired by the people mentioned above. Somehow the ditto heads in this country have this notion that government itself is the problem. I beg to differ. The people we're "voting" in are the problem. If every cop hired was in the Mafia the police wouldn't be very effective. Same thing with government.

From top to bottom we're rotten and falling apart. We're so deep in shit we can't pull ourselves out and if we do it'll only be for a matter of time because we're not honest enough to assess what our real issues are. Even then we don't have the unity, selflessness, and balls to address those problems.
I take offense to that since I am an authoritarian nor does any authoritarian that I know hell not even Totalitarians approve with how America is run. No one in their right mind allows Corporations that much power over Government unless they are corrupt as hell...which describes Washington perfectly at this point. People tend to think corruption = fascism or authoritarianism or totalitarianism which just isn't true.
