It's the internet... there are lots of mean hurtful people on it. How exactly did she not know that? Being popular means having love and hate. Luckily this is the most fleeting kind of fame and will be gone shortly (unless the internet makes her a meme in which case it will scab over and form a hideous boil scar on the underbelly of t6 he internet for months or years).

So she's catching untold amounts of shit because she was used by the corporate music machine to lend her voice to a single song, and the resulting fallout will probably follow her for the rest of her life and ruin her chances of being taken seriously in the music community.

Vanilla Ice, anyone?

GRARGH! It's really frustrating, because I can almost here a good voice strangled down in there somewhere. If only she'd kill the autotune and lift her freakin' soft palette... and if only she was singing something less asinine...

By the way, I've heard nasty things about Ark Music Factory. I think this song was doomed from conception.

Most people use MSN, Skype, Facebook Chat and IRC. Pidgin's kinda underground, and I've never even heard of Trillian.

With practice and a vocal coach she could become good. I mean it doesn't take much to make music these days via Ke$ha and BEP.

Shes not the fame and name recognition done already now all she needs is an actual decent studio and some singing lessons and we may have a female Justin Biebs

While it's reassuring that she didn't write that horrible song herself, it kinda raises a more important issue:

The REAL culprit behind those lyrics is still out there... Somewhere, right now, he/she is writing MORE useless bullshit-garbage that panders to not even the LOWEST of common denominators to be foisted onto new, unsuspecting "talent".

It's like if Batman was a songwriter, and it was his mission to fuck up our ears.
I just watched the first half of this:

and I couldn't agree more with WolfEdge. Who in thier right mind would write crap like that? Better yet, who would think it was good enough to bother recording/publishing except as maybe a parody or a joke? Even though the above video is probably better that Black's (I haven't seen it, so I don't know) and the guy singing it is obviously talented, the lyrics suck like nothing I have ever heard before. That poor unsuspecting girl.

"I didn't write it at all," Black says. "'Friday' is about hanging out with friends, having fun. I felt like it was my personality in that song."
Then make sure all of the lyrics are pertinent to the song. Explaining the days of the week has nothing to do with hanging out with friends.
I know she didn't write it, but she shouldn't have been okay with singing this shitty song.
And critique isn't cyber bullying.

Stopped 1 minute into the video.
I wouldn't call this a song, it's not really bad as people say as I have heard worse from screamo.
However it seems more like she is speaking and not singing at all, so not a song.
This isn't on the radio I don't listen to anymore I hope.
I'm stuck listening to 70-90's now.

It's called trolling. Post something most people will get angry at and sit back and enjoy the hits.

Internet: Thinks it sucks, believes this is obvious.
Troll: "I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY IT SUCKS IT'S REALLY GOOD"
Internet: LOL THIS GIRL IS SO DUMB HAHAHA *SENDS TO FRIENDS*
Troll: *views # of hits increasing* trollface.jpeg

Um.... cool story bro?

OT- If they didn't realize this song sucked when they looked at the lyrics or when she sang it then she desirves every ounce of critisism.

Oh boo hoo. Guess what girlie, people wont like you. Even good music has plenty of people who hate it. If you cant stand the hate, then dont relase music, especcially on the internet. She needs to grow up if she expects to make more music. Since I know I will always despise it most likely, as will most other people older than 13.

I know it sucks to be criticized, but I lost it when she said she felt like she was being "cyberbullied"

Why did no one stop her tell this isn't good, let's not release this. I mean I assume that the producers don't want their name attached to something like that. Personally I have nothing against the genre but that wasn't music for human ears.

The what?

I didn't even know this person until now and I think I'll stay in blissful ignorance about this subject.

Oh god that's funny.

OT: I don't like the song, but with all the hate I see on /mu/, /b/ and FJ today, I feel bad.

Well I can understand pidgin as it has always been inferior to trillian, but I find it hard to believe that people would use a client for each of those respective clients when trillian handles MSN, Yahoo, AIM, Facebook, Twitter, ICQ, IRC, Skype, Facebook chat, Myspace IM, Jabber, Bonjour, and several others. I cannot even fathom a logical reason to use individual clients especially considering trillian has been out and in use for over a decade now.

To each their own I guess. I apologize for my assumption which is seemingly incorrect.

As for the subject of the thread. If I were her I would be more surprised at a lack of hate in light of the lack of talent? Sort of like how Katy Perry, Kesha and Will smiths daughter (off the top of my head, I know there are plenty of other honorable mentions) are producing practically indistinguishable songs.

But... Its pop music, Its music for and by the lowest common denominator to ensure maximum exposure.

This isn't "cyberbullying". She put her music out in the industry, and I will criticize it just like any other artist. I'm not going to pull any punches if it's annoying and shitty.

Also, I'm really getting pissed off with the rising claims of these pop stars and the like being "cyberbullied". It's not even close. Cut it out, you attention-whoring idiots.
The problem is that instead of blasting the music, a lot of people blast the singer instead, saying terrible things about them, simply because they don't like - or in this case, justifiably hate - the music. It's not cyber-bullying, but that doesn't make it right.

That said, my reaction was a little different to most people's. I sat there for about thirty seconds, then started laughing uproariously.

I'm surprised that it's doing well on iTunes though. I thought it only had so many views on Youtube because people are generally masochistic, and only watched it because they'd heard how bad it was.

For people to actually spend money on this song? That amazed me.
