On a cold winter night, a convoy of 2 mid sized sedans, traveling back from an enjoyable evening of snowtubing, came to a furious snow drift.
Taunting them to atempt to traverse its many hidden boons and traps. The silver sedan was first to attempt the crossing. Barely managing to cling to the path set forth by other adventurers, many a time did the silver sedan sway from the path. The ditch watched the silver sedan near its grasp only to be foiled by the might of the winter tires.
Soon enough the silver sedan had crossed the snowy plane and approached the stop sign.
Only to realize that fate had not been so kind to the other vehicle.
The purple sedan battled to free itself from the maw of the ditch, but all its attempts were in vein.
With the purple sedan rendered immobile, the passengers of the other vehicle rushed over to help, only to realize this task could not be completed by the two of them.
They needed to enlist the help of the gaurdians. They needed to help of the Canucks.
The brave adventures traveled a great distance, faced with mountains of snow and icey winds on their face, they traveled to the lair of the Great Canadians.
Once they reached the great fortess of the Canucks. Our warriors summoned them. They presented themselves with a hardy smile and a mug of ale.
"Oh great ones! We have come to beg of your aid, our colleage has fallen trap to the vicous ditch."
"We shall come, and we shall free you of this great burden" replyed the Canadian.
And they came, with the full force of 3 shovels and a Nissian SUV had to offer.
It was a great battle, many times the valients efforts were foiled by another of the ditches sly tricks.
In the end the car was retrieved from the ditch and was able to continue its journey.
When the travelers offered the Canucks a reward, they did not accept. Replying it is ones civil duty to help those in need.

Now that I've got that out of the way, I'll tell you the english version of what happened.
A friends car got stuck in a snow drift and went into the ditch. I got a few of the locals to help her get her car out.

I thought I should let people know of the good deed that happened today.

Let me know your stories of how some stranger has helped you out of a jam.

Getting cars out of ditches as a community is a time honoured Canadian tradition, like eating fatty food, smoking weed, and complaining about how cold it is. (preferably all at once).

I myself have been enlisted by posses of neighbors trying to free the cars of wandering travelers from the icy snowbanks a few times. Sometimes I've gotten stuff out of it, one guy gave me a 6 pack.

I can't think of any time a stranger has helped me out of the good of their heart. Not that I doubt that it has happened, I just have a terrible memory for that sort of thing. If I remember an event I'll edit this and post it.

Here in Montreal, I have helped the freeing of a couple cars with the help of a couple of friends. We are no stranger to the danger of snow. Though we'll ***** till all hell right up to springtime.

EDIT: Post #666

I've done that same thing many times, and I'm American. It's just being a helpful person, not Canadian.

This thread is not to say anything about Canadians being friendlier or more snow-hardy than Americans. We like to have our little "Canadian" things though, even if they aren't exclusively Canadian.

I've helped people out of many jams myself, I've lived in Michigan all my life and i am well aware of how the roads get around the winter season. Our roads are horrible and it snows like crazy so i am always prepared to help or be helped in a jam, like when someone that parked on our street while visiting a neighbors house got stuck in some snow he parked on. The man was not from Michigan and did not know how to get out so he thought he'd put the pedal to the metal and try to speed his way out, which to anyone who has ever gotten stuck knows that it only digs you into a deeper hole. I got my +2 Trusty Shovel of Snow pushing and explained to his that he needs to rock his car back and forth to get out of the hole while i moved some of the snow from under him.

Mission complete and i did a good deed for the day, hooray!

I once went on a bike trip to a Wal-mart 7 miles from where I live, and one of my tires went flat about a mile and a half away. My gf and I walked our bikes the rest of the way and bought a tire pump and a new inner-tube for my tire. One of the store clerks and a friendly customer helped us replace it.

Ironically, I don't even remember what we were going to the Wal-mart for in the first place.

Extra ironically, we had already decided to take the roundabout route (~9 miles) before we realized that all four of us had failed to think of making sure what had originally caused the flat was gone. So I got another one. We still made decent time pumping up the tire and riding for half a mile before pumping it up again. For about 5 miles. When the tire exploded. I took the bike into a shop to fix it after that.

And that was our awesome, much-longer-than-expected 16 mile bike trip.

Edit: We also got our car stuck in the snow recently on a trip to Lake Tahoe, almost immediately two people were kind enough to pull over and help us out.
