Honor Harrington would make an AWESOME space RTS if you ask me.

The Vorkosigan Saga novels might make for a good RPG or Adventure game.
Yeah, Honor Harrington would be great (yay, I finally found another fan!). There was an ad [http://rulethehonorverse.com/] for one at the back of At All Costs, but it looks fake to me, just a marketing device. Based on the description on the site though, it would be epic if it was real.
Man, I can imagine it now.

"HYPER FOOTPRINT! Info coming in now... CIC makes it to be 27 point sources, 5 maybe 6 SDs, 10 or so cruisers and a handful of tin cans. They're on a least-time intercept with the primary with turnaround in 180 minutes. Accel indicates they're probably pretty heavy with pods." "Very well, take us to GQ."

...

SQUEE...
Yeah, that would be awesome. Did you look at the site though? It looks fake to me, and not just because I, personally, could make a more advanced trailer. I love the premise, though; controlling a minor star nation, controlling their diplomacy and war, following the careers of specific officers (who hopefully come in more flavors than "Honor Harrington" and "Pavel Young", just because I prefer some shades of gray)...it's just so cool.

Starship Troopers (back when it was a book, a comic and there was only one movie...which was actually pretty good) would make a decent FPS in my opinion (I've never heard of it being made into a game so excuse me if I missed something).

Most of the Black Library books for Warhammer 40k would translate into awesome games (probably RPG's, FPS's or RTS's).

I've played one of them, don't know which one, and it was quite bad. At the end of the second or third level I just couldn't take more.

Yeah, the website looks . . . iffy. There have been other [http://www.adastragames.com/products/adastra/sits.html] tie in game products so I would be willing to believe they're making a PC game but it does seem somewhat suspect. On the other hand, the idea of Weber wanting to make a game but getting stuck with a development house of, er, suspect quality doesn't seem to be far fetched either.

Also, so I don't feel like I'm hijacking the thread, the more I think about it the Pern novels by Anne McCaffrey might make for decent games.

- Stephen King's The Dark Tower (story driven MMORPG perhaps?)
Great idea, that's just the kind of expansive world that would suit an MMORPG.
I also think the world of HP Lovecraft's "The Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath" would suit this kind of game adaptation.

Bourne Identity series, the game is based off the book even though there is a movie.
Well they made The Bourne Conspiracy which is a follow-up to the movies (and books I suppose), if my memory serves me right.

I'd like to see Dune get redone, as an MMORPG or RPG instead of an RTS, though.
...now I really want to be a Fremen and ride around on a worm mount...

We posted about movie games, sequels and fan fiction, so why not think about which written universe you would like to see in a game (provided it is treated with the respect it deserves)

So, armed with the knowledge that the gaming industry never ever failed to make a perfect movie-to-console adaption *cough*, I would love to see the following books/comics as a game:

- Stephen King's The Dark Tower (story driven MMORPG perhaps?)
- Hellblazer (Comic. Not movie.)
- Wendy Pini's Elfquest
- Tad Williams' Otherland
- Bill Willingham's Fables
Hellblazer probably wouldn't work, and I don't know if I'd want them to even try.

Hammer's Slammers by David Drake.

You've got a Mercenary armoured regiment, with roles varying from Infantryman to being a Tank commander all in the same place. Certainly seems like a game that would suit a Call of Duty/Armed Assault style game, even if the armoury is a tad limited (1cm Pistol, 1cm SMG, Grenade Launcher, 2cm Powergun, Buzzbomb).

Malus Darkblade. would make hack-n-slash games that could match God of War

Gotrek and Felix. Co-op hack-n-slash awesomeness.

Ciaphias Cain FPS anyone?
I'd rather it were more RPGish.
There'd better be Jurgen or there'll be hell to pay though.

I'd like to see Iain M. Banks's Culture novels turned into games. Some of them would be quite difficult; Excession probably wouldn't work because most of the main characters are AIs. On the other hand, The Player of Games could (in theory) be turned into an RTS, provided it was done well.

I do think Consider Phlebas would make a fantastic action/adventure game, though. It could work as an FPS/third-person adventure hybrid, actually. There's plenty of gun combat to make the FPS sections work, and there's also plenty of exploration and hand-to-hand fighting for the third-person sections. There's even room for a vehicle level when the characters steal a ship to escape The Ends of Invention. It would be a difficult game to put together, but in the hands of a good developer, I think it could work really well.

How about an MMO based in the Forgotten Realms?
Provided it was by a good developer, that could be really good. It's got the requisite massive world, no shortage of races to choose from, and, like you said, absurd amounts of lore and history with which to put the story together. There are potential problems, though: first off, balancing it would be a nightmare, because of the aforementioned huge number of races. More importantly, though, D&D is supposed to be played with a group of people, and I'm not sure a party system would work in an MMO. (I've not played DDO, so it may have worked there: if it did, feel free to correct me).

ehhhhhhhhhhhhh :/
Those would be a little...I don't know. At this point Gotrek is pretty much invincible and the same really applies to Malus. And I'm not sure these would make good games anyway. I'm rapidly losing faith in Warhammer/Warhammer 40k based games that are being released.

"And Then There Were None" was made into a point and click adventure horror game for the Wii. I have it but got to a point where I couldn't find a light source to go upstairs. So I gave up. But I was a good idea for a game ^_^

Has anyone apart from me read Ian Irvine's Three Worlds Cycle? Eleven books split as follows:

- A quartet set in a fantasy world called Santhenar dealing with the discovery of a magical relic and the ensuing war to gain control of said relic
- A second quartet dealing with the after effects 200 years later, during another war
- A trilogy set ten years later dealing with the after effects of that second war, during the reign of the self proclaimed 'God Emperor'.

Anyone who has read them will agree here, hopefully, that an MMO based on that would be pretty damn awesome. There are four different species of human and each of those is split into further tribes and races (Whelm, normal old human, Zain, etc.), although only three of the seperate species could really be used as the fourth is made up of only a hundred people and live on a different world anyway. However, an MMO set on Santhenar that covered the timeline spanning all 250 years, roughly, that the series encompasses, and allowing you to change the course of the series and interact with characters from the novels, and so on, would be pretty damn cool. I'd definitely buy that, and I don't even play any MMO's...
