One thing people need to consider, both reviewers and those recieving them, is if you both are so different in view, then the review is pointless. I find it a bit ironic that this rant is indirectly linked to a MovieBob review. He insults various audiences all the time. Yeah, it's pretty rude when reviewers do this, but the bottom line is that EVERY reviewer is biased, has stuff they don't like, and will likely hold people who do like what they don't with disdain. I'm not going to flip off reviewers for the matter because everybody does it. As much as you poopoo the concept, you've probably done the exact same thing before, or at the very least thought it.

Mayhap that is the common practice however I dont believe that just because something is accepted by the majority that that makes said thing ok to do.

Paparazzi's treatment of celebs personal lives is an example of this.

I can agree that it's going to far to insult an audience over a movie. Straight up insulting people is really just unprofessional and rude.

But I always wonder to what degree we are influenced by the media. I mean... yes I want to go see a movie, or buy something, but how much of that is my own decision and how much of it is the influence of the media? Then I look at the music industry, see people who write terrible lyrics, have uninspired backing music, and can't sing to save their lives so they use autotune and I wonder... is that what people truly want to listen to and experience? Does that actually move them on some level or speak to their souls? The only logical explanation to me is that the media has some amount of control over the general population.

I don't mean so far as mind control, like they could make pepole jump off bridges. But the power of suggestion is really strong, especially on those who are weak minded. None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe that they are free.

When critics start directly insulting the audience just for seeing a movie, it's time to stop and call their credibility into question.

I did this to MovieBob last year when he projected his rage against the country because Scott Pilgrim was being beaten out by the summer's big junk food action movie.

I respect the passion one might have for certain pieces of cinema, but that does not empower you enough to start slinging condescension against a group for not sharing *your* taste.
Make your recommendation, back it up and stick to the brass facts.
If I, right now, started typing my rage for every single movie that I thought was worthy but ended up getting passed over, and beaten out by something more shallow and popular, I would probably stop typing this response sometime next year.

That said...
Critics are being outraged, pandering assholes right now because Sucker Punch is an obvious target. I hated the trailer the moment I saw it, not because what I saw looked bad, but because I felt it was marketed directly for me. Years of mistrust and disappointment has left me feeling cautious about such movies, and only rarely do they turnabout and surprise me.
I imagine that to an older generation, this must seem even worse; as a special-effects extravaganza that shows a lot but says virtually nothing (no story, no substance, but lots of bling on screen).
At least, those are my thoughts based on a few reviews I've read, and the trailer; I haven't seen Sucker Punch yet since I've already spent my annual trip to the cinema on Paul (and it was a fucking awesome movie).

As much as I can't stand critics and generally don't agree with them, I do admit that it is their opinion that they are being paid for. And yes it pisses me off to no end when a critic insults the people that go and watch a particular movie and enjoy it, but honestly there is not one of us out there that doesn't do the same thing. I do when I think about stupid trash shows like the Jersey Shore. I think it is the lowest form of entertainment and a sign of the end of the world, and the people who enjoy it need their heads examined.

Ya it might piss you off when some douchebag critic *cough*moviebob*cough* insults half the internet for liking the expendables, but that is his right to do so in this day and age.

I think it's a little naive to think that the media has no influence on anyone. I mean if you watch a '30 min' show, you're getting 9 minutes of advertising. That adds up, especially if you watch a lot of TV, it probably easily adds up to years over some people's lifetimes.

I don't think hardly anyone who likes someone or something that's popular would tell you that they only like it to participate in whats popular or whatever. I think that they literally can't see beyond what the media puts in front of them. For instance when I was younger I didn't realise there was anything beyond what was in pop culture really, luckily I had friends who got me into some much more fufilling things, like actually meaningful music, movies, and games.

If you enjoy the movie then don't worry about critics. They always have differing opinions based on their taste.

For example, me and MovieBob. We both agree on quite a few points. We also differ quite a bit. He loved Avatar, I thought that it was a insipid movie designed to wring out money from sci-fi geeks and keep them from walking out by throwing up mind-numbing CGI. It's all in your tastes.

I was bashing the one review. The review was done poorly I think. I did not say every review he does is poor, cause I have not seen (heard) them. I WAS going off that one review, which was very harsh and ignorant too, which stikes a sore spot.

Can't really say I guess, its not like I know every person on the planet and why they like what they like. Obviously advertising has a certain influence on people otherwise noone would pay money to advertise. But its influence is mostly that of informing you not forcing an opinion on you. You may brush your teeth with Colgate or Aquafresh because thats all you see on TV but after you actually tried it you form an opinion of your own, whether its the same as the ads want you to or a different one. Its more exposure than anything else. From my experience a lot of people will try out something advertised but only a very small part of them would continue after the first time if its genuinely bad.
