Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, Jedi Academy, Half-Life, Halo 1, and CoE 4.

Oh yeah, and Morrowind. That game has always been there for me.

Multiplayer in general, really. Just pure good fun. That's the whole reason it exists.

No matter how much fun you're having on singleplayer, it always pales in comparison to how much you can have on a good multiplayer with friends.

Mainly multiplayer games which are well balanced I concider as pure fun when playing with friends. I also enjoy playing alone but often it's not fun in the same way. One game I actually had very fun and got drawn into was Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands. But multiplayer titles I've been playing uncountless hours with friends are Super Smash Bros Melee, 007 Golden Eye, Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2/3 and the Guitar Hero / Rock Band series.
Single player games I really enjoy and are more than just "I want to get through this game because it's a nice challenge" are: The Metroid Prime series, Mario, Prince of Persia (Rival Swords and The Forgotten Sands), Red Steel 2, The Legend of Zelda series.
Of course there are more but these are from the top of my head.

GTA series (before #4)
Super Meatboy
VVVVVV
Serious Sam
Arkham Asylum

Those are the most recent examples I can think of where the fun happens at a very basic level of gameplay. Just immediate fun dicking around or just fun perfecting the motions, when it happens, not with a long term goal or some narrative in mind.

This is different from the satisfaction that games like x Total War, Tropico, Civilization or King's Bounty can give when your plans work.

I reckon for a game to have the funfun, it has to either offer a good challenge and let try again immediately when you fail/die, or just be unrealisticly violent and spectacular.

Muramasa: The Demon Blade. Best game on the Wii.

No seriously. I know it's Wii, but apparently they'll be bringing it to PS3 along with Odin Sphere in a HD pack soon. I hope. Muramasa is just insane samurai sword action, but it's so fun I wanted to keep playing it, even though I 100%ed it!

OSU pisses me off because the only reason it is challenging is because most people don't play it with tablet PC. I mean it's fun but the mouse + keyboard combo for that game feels like I'm not playing it right.
I know, I always play it with a regular mouse, but I just learned to play it that way.
