I can second this. If you speak English and/or German and then listen to Dutch people talk it almost sounds like a parody of both languages. Kind of like the Swedish chef from the Muppet Show being a parody of Swedish. Except meanwhile this is a real language.
Gersploot?

See, I could actually think that was an actual Dutch word. Crazy Dutch people and their made up language.

Edit: Apparently there's a place in The Netherlands called "Gersloot".

I really can't see America as particularly funny. Humour doesn't translate well across cultures, so it's not surprising a US publication would find American humour funniest. Germans are renowned for not having a sense of humour, but I bet if you grew up in Germany you'd find German humour hilarious, and that of other countries not so much. It's heavily rooted in culture.

BTW, how many Germans does it take to change a light bulb? Just one - they're efficient and not very funny.

EDIT: It's odd, really. I don't find most American humour at all funny, a lot of it is just plain painful to watch, and yet two of my all-time favourite comedians were American - George Carlin and Bill Hicks.

Actually it was a British publication, they polled people from around the globe.

New Zealand is the funniest nation. That websites kinda full of crap. I personally find American humour to be rather dull and immature.

The website seems to be only looking at the big counteries. Seriously, New Zealand has made money off laughing at ourselves, any country that can deal with living next to Australia has to have a damned good sense of humour. Quoting Seinfield, Simpsons and shit as being examples of excellent humour isn't really fair. American TV shows get the most exposure, so yes, they will end up being popular.

I'm sorry America, but your not that funny. Your just that guy who forces people to listen to his jokes every five minutes, and thus is known as "That Funny Guy", even though he's mostly pretty generic.
See above post, humor was decided by people from multiple cultures and backgrounds, not just Americans. I suppose there is nothing wrong with plugging your own nation, but please don't say it's just "Americans voting American."

Unless they polled an equal number of people from each country, they still would have had a massive sampling bias just due to the different online populations of each country. American results would dominate, since they're by far the largest group online.

Actually, I would expect predominantly British site to have a British bias, rather than an American.

Huh, I think America is very funny, but not the "funniest". I would say that goes to Ireland or England.

True, America is "funny". But I still think America doesn't grasp "comedy". In that the drama and the pity of life.
Really? Go watch the dinner party episode of the American office or any Richard Pryor stand up and tell me American comedy doesn't understand black comedy. I think people just have a problem admitting when America is the best at something

Also in case you say the office is British the original show was in fact British but the American counterpart stopped recreating the British episodes half way through the first season. It has greatly surpassed the original show
Was almost with you till you wen't and claimed the American Office is even on a frikkin par with the British one. And then you went that one step further and completely lost me. Unless this was some seriously esoteric dark humor, in which case you just won.

PS: Black humor and you forgot Bill Hicks? Shame on you!
The American Office is leaps and bounds better. It combines wit, awkward realism, and belly laughs (which the British office lacked). People argue they made the American version more low brow but honestly just because the humor was dryer on the British office does not make it better. I mean it was good but sorry America beat England with the office. It is really easy to claim the original I better than the adaptation but if you actually watch both it is easy to tell the American version has a stronger cast and a around staff that is deeply connected to their target audience.

Sorry not a Bill Hicks fan.

I second this. I honestly found the UK Office "mildy amusing at times", but the US Office...Wow... It's an abomination and should not exist. Imagine if we did a British version of Friends or something. It's exactly like that.
Lol either you've never watched it and are forming and uneducated opinion based on pure bias or you just have very strong opinions about a television
program.

Also didn't the british office last two seasons and friends last nine? I mean the brtish office is good and friends sucks but I dont think the British office was a landmark of tv in England like the American office and friends were in American. So Id probably compare the British office to arrested development. So td be more like England making a version of arrested development...which idk if that would work or not.

I say it's because we can pull something like this:

Political Pictures [http://news.icanhascheezburger.com/2010/11/03/political-pictures-taco-time/?utm_source=embed&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=sharewidget]

...and not get shot.

That plus the fact that our own leaders love getting in on the act as well:

And of course from earlier this year:

Actually Alexis rates this among top sites in countries outside the US. It's outside the top 1,500 for US, but top 200 for UK for instance.

Or I'm just exaggerating for shits and giggles. I don't have strong opinions on it, like I say, I don't even really like the UK Office. The only reason I'm even mentioning it is because it's kind of annoying to see a very British show being Americanized [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Americanization]. Something that's probably fairly difficult for American people to understand (I don't mean that in a patronising way).

I also really don't like Steve Carell even before I saw US Office so yeah, I guess I am bias too.

Speaking as a proud Australian with English and Middle Eastern heritage, I'd say that Ireland is the funniest country. Don't get me wrong, America has produced some funny stuff and people, I just think the Irish (and the British Isles generally) have produced better, but that's just my opinion (and sense of humour), or how I'd vote.
Not very proud if you're not nominating us mate. I'd tell ya ta go back where ya came from, but that'd raise all kinds of serious medical and logistical issues :p
Hey, hey, I know we're fucking hilarious. We're some of the funniest people in the world. But apparently this survey asked people to vote for countries other then their own, and I was saying how I'd vote. I was simply providing context for my decision.
And that's the story I'm gonna stick with.

The article says that, according to a survey, "American's are the best at making people laugh." I can't help feeling that the people who took the survey were referring to things like this.

Regarding the guy at 0:59 and the woman after him... I just don't know what to say.

America is pretty funny. Lots of good humor from us.
England is pretty funny too. What with the trolling of terrorists, playing Darth Vader's theme when that one politician visited and so forth.
North Korea is funny in how inept their ruler is. They're not that funny otherwise.

Australia are fucking hilarious. They have our British sense of humour, coupled with an accent that was made to make comedy.

Anyone seen Angry Boys on BBC recently? It's fucking brilliant and it's Australian.

Another great example of Australian hilarity is the film Chopper. Check it out. Now.
