Are they kidding?! Germany is sooooo the funniest nation!
I completely agree. The more serious they try to be the funnier they get.

England's pretty funny too.

EDIT: I totally forgot about DENMARK. Denmark is totally the funniest country of all time. No matter what they say it's instantly hilarious.
Do you find this funny? I believe you are thinking of the happiest country in the world ;)
Anywho. It's hard to say which country is the funniest. You should be measuring the ... funniness (is that even a word) per citizen, not for what TV show is the funniest, although that would probably be impossible to do.
I have to disagree with Germany being the least funny country in the world. Seeing that I live pretty close to the German border, I, almost daily, meet Germans, and I have German friends... which I find boring... but anywho, not the most boring. I would probably say that North Korea is the least funny nation in the world...

... oh, nevermind. I always found Kim Jong Il extremely funny for some weird reason that I can't explain

I'm sorry WHAT?? The US is the funniest nation in the world? Granted they have some good comedians but what about England? Lee Evans, Ross Noble, David Mitchell, Sarah McGillan, Graham Norton, Lee Mack, Markus Brigstocke, I could go on and on. Personal opinion here of course, but Germany is also a really funny country, it just only works if you understand the language and culture/history, which very few foreigners do.

Also, how is Obama the funniest leader? I have one word: Berlusconi

I don't know...

Have you seen the stuff that comes out of North Korea? (Besides crippling government oppression?)

Yes I do, when I imagine it in a Danish accent.

Have you ever even watched American Office? From season two onwards it´s absolutely brilliant and has very little to do with the original version. Love the original uk one too, but really they´re two different shows and the us one is very good indeed.

Huh, I think America is very funny, but not the "funniest". I would say that goes to Ireland or England.

True, America is "funny". But I still think America doesn't grasp "comedy". In that the drama and the pity of life.
Really? Go watch the dinner party episode of the American office or any Richard Pryor stand up and tell me American comedy doesn't understand black comedy. I think people just have a problem admitting when America is the best at something

Also in case you say the office is British the original show was in fact British but the American counterpart stopped recreating the British episodes half way through the first season. It has greatly surpassed the original show
It has nothing to do with that at all. The Office is originally English, it's written by Gervais, not really American humour. The thing is that The Office US now is terrible. The English office lived and died great, never a bad episode, every episode perfect. The American office had its moments but it will never come close to the English office. To top it off, season 7 was not needed, the series crashed and burned sadly.

Yes, Richard Pryor, Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy. These people were all hilarious. "were". If America is to win funniest nation then they need Comedians now that are funny. I'd rather scrape my eyeballs out with a cheese grater than watch SNL. Granted though, America has a lot of funny people but nothing as funny as back in the 80's or 70's. Jason Sudeikis is the toast of the comedy town and I can't stand his smug guts.

I still don't think America is the funniest nation. Let's be honest, the funniest Comedians in America (not racist) are black. Comedy stems from evil and horror, not happy jumpy SNL people.
The real Comedians are black as they have pasts filled with horror and great sadness. Personally that's why Irish comedians are the best in the world, simply put.

This is not an "America sucks" post or anything, it's that I feel that America won this based on the horribleness of shows on TV. It's all about money, which ruins shows. Big bang is terrible, Two and a Half men is dead, the Simpsons stopped being funny ages ago, Family guy is going, south park is nothing compared to early-middle seasons.

I think American shows die with no dignity, all stretched out for corporate gain. It ruins them. Let's be honest, most Americans don't grasp black humour, look at how they've kicked Gervais off the Golden Globes for a few little jokes.

For a country that is apparently the funniest, barely any have a sense of humour.
Nah, America is the funniest nation and not a single episode of the British Office was perfect or any TV show for that matter.

But i'll agree that America does not know when to let shows die. That's why Arrested Development and Seinfeld are considered some of the best comedy series, because they ended while on top.

And let's give this black humor thing a rest ok? Sure I love it as much as the next guy, but not all comedy stems form evil and horror. Some of it comes from pure imagination.
Nah, England is the funniest nation. I do agree, no episode was perfect but the English office was a lot closer than the American one.

Arrested development was great, a true gem that was pushed aside. Seinfeld did not, sadly, die with dignity. Seinfeld was one of the best of all time, that is true but in no way did Seinfeld's last season compliment the show.

Most comedy does stem from pain and sadness. That can not be denied.

What criteria did they use to make this list?
There is so many different ways in which you could interpret a "funniest nation" list.
Are they going by Best comedians? Funniest Films? Best TV shows? People with best sense of humour?

I would cast a vote for us irish having the best sense of humour in the world. We joke about everything and its noted how you can have a great laugh with the people over here.

... butt i would say that England have the best comedy shows ever made. America have the funniest films and the best comedians are canadian.

Yes most comedy does stem from pain and sadness, but to deny pure silliness and imagination would be a disservice to comedy.

The English Office may have gone done a similar road as the American Office if it were to continue past 2 seasons. Who knows?

The last season of Seinfeld was ok, but the series finale wasn't very good, in general it did end on top. Strong ratings, strong following, decent last season. Not as good as the others, but better then most other comedies 9th season.

I'd be willing to compromise and say both England and America are the funniest nations, because honestly would comedy be where it is today without people from either of those countries?

Yes, America is the funniest nation. After all the Escapist is based in the US, and what other country would come up with as funny a joke as putting ads in our captchas? Because that's a joke, right? RIGHT!?
