Cynically, one could say she only started this once a number of her fans started wondering why she was keeping quiet (which was a deliberate decision, she didn't want to alienate rightwingers), when lots of others in her position were not. She even had a big neo-nazi following she neglected to denounce. It's also been pointed out that in the past she had been quick to bring up feminism when she was being unfairly criticised for her lifestyle or relationship, but otherwise didn't tend to bring it up. But it started a bit after Trump got elected. She started being vocally progressive, but got a lot of acclaim for fairly minor stuff.

I am actually familiar with that part, though I thought it was only rumors and here say at the time. If Swift is really smart, then she would drop those assholes. She wouldn't lose much and she knows it. Linkin Park never wanted to associate with neo-nazis, and told them to screw off. She can do the same.

Spoken like a true biatch-in-a-boxstand. She's hiding behind feminism, and doesn't believe in her causes. If it wasn't such a big deal, she would have just been out honest from the get-go instead of being defensive. If I remember correctly, this was around the me too movement, and unfortunately you had false feminist and one of those abusing their position or taking advantage of actual victims.

Now, I'm not privy to her innermost thoughts and feelings, maybe she wanted to keep her mouth shut and get on with her job and nobody's perfect. But it's also quite plausible that she decided that becoming (somewhat) political would be good for her career, that it's tokenism. No idea.

I'll keep an eye on her, if she tries anything else suspicious.

Canada is so woke that it already has apologised to the First Peoples (over quite a few issues), and not just that but even the Conservatives have issued them on behalf of the country.

On the other hand, naturally, backing some of that up with serious input of resources to improve indigenous people's lives and societies has been rather less forthcoming.

A funny event in Dutch anti woke world is that the hardliners in the center right VVD party threatened to bring down the government(their own government) if more strict anti immigration legislation wasn't implemented. The other governing parties refused meaning that this stunt backfired and the VVD party brought down their own government, and thus dethroned their own prime minister.

Less funny is that this means the Dutch now don't have a government. Since he's hounded by scandals I don't see Mark Rutte win another term which is concerning considering who might end up replacing him. The most likely candidate is probably the Farmers party which means an outgrowth of ruthless, polluting and selfish agricultural corporations might end up ruling the Netherlands.

I don't know of all of her relationships, but this show how certain people aren't true fans and they just jump on any bandwagon. She still made her choices regardless. Sucks to be her.

It's just a hit job attempting to pick out all the worst to attack her with because there's an audience that will pay for that, just like there are lots of rose-tinted hagiographies because they also sell. Like many famous people, she's a vessel that people can pour their stupid preconceptions into rather than be considered as a real-life, imperfect human being. She's not a flawless hero or a incorrigible villian, she gets some stuff right and makes some mistakes. And imperfect she will be, given the frankly weird existence most people famous from childhood almost certainly have.

I really wish some people would get that shit out of their head and move the fuck on with their own lives and stop attaching them to their childhood heroes or some other celebrity. I know Swift ain't a "bad person", but there are problems she's had or she hid behind feminism to avoid criticism. I genuinely do wish the best for her.

Things like this is why I am grateful for Linkin Park, Gorillaz, Shing02, or more of the indie/smaller music acts. They either keep to themselves, avoid the bullshit and grandstanding, and truly appreciate their fans and themselves and both give their love and heart right back. I know we can't all predict these things, but there is a reason why I never followed celebrity beef much. Especially when it came to hip-hop. I had a few chuckles myself, but even during my teens, most of the stories became interchangeable junk I get sick of hard.
