They're more like "that's what you deserve for not being a good person like me, because if you were, this wouldn't have happened to you".
Depends. There's the sort of religious idea that God punishes people on earth, even though I'm pretty sure (for Christianity) the Bible very clearly says that people get judged at point of death. This is not just about general wellbeing: for instance in terms of Prosperity Gospel, it means earthly wealth.

Then there are people who think - and not always in a religious sense - that people should go through adversity because it makes them better people. In terms of religion, that it brings them closer to God. To be fair, to some extent adversity does need to be gone through and is character building, But there's also a point where adversity can be pointless, absurd and/or abusive.

What disease isn't fatal with your definition? The flu kills people, is not getting your kid a flu shot child endangerment?
I would say deliberately refusing to ensure your child's safety because of your belief in junk science or idiotic religious/political views would count as child endangerment. At minimum, I would consider it irresponsible of a parent.

You're really jumping to conclusions on that. If the government recommends something as important and crucial as a vaccine, you know have to look it up because they fucked up big time last time.
Fucked up how? because a bunch of rightwing grifters spread lies that the vaccine was secretly a plot by China to insert Jewish microchips into people's blood? I'm not blaming the government because rightwingers decided their idiotic view of "freedom" was more important than their lives or other people's right to not get sick.

It requires no conspiracy theory to double-check their work.
And yet, it was only the conspiracy theorists that had an issue with the vaccine.

If your a parent, you have to check to see of the covid vaccine got slipped into your child's necessary vaccines, you shouldn't have to do that.
If you're a parent, why would you have a problem with your child being vaccinated against a disease that's killing people in droves?

The new age, all natural lefties.
You don't know what "recently" means, do you?

My fault on the measles, I thought the fatality rate was lower it was. I wasn't talking about small pox, but chicken pox.
Chicken pox can still be fatal.

Good intentions doesn't make something right. And people pushing against the covid "narrative" also had good intentions.
And what, pray tell, were those good intentions?

Sadly if goods don't cross borders, tanks will. Good luck, Canada, it's just the way things are. If we ever head to a war with you, you will face the best military in the world of the 21st century, and there is a non-zero chance you may even face me if mass conscription for all able-bodied but perhaps not able-minded men is a thing in such a war.

I've already heard Americans talking about choosing between seeing their friends or kids dying or letting the fascists win

Everything in moderation. You exercise to keep fit and healthy. If you exercise too much, your kidney shut down and you piss blood

Can't decide if putting this into capitalism thread does disservice or not doing so does so. It's deeply class based, as issues inherently are whether anyone likes/wants them to be or not. Ultimately is about potential eyeballs for matters closest to heart and political relevance, so here it goes. As an aside, the historical retelling film 'Judas and the Black Messiah' is a must watch, even if the video essay isn't of interest.

There are clips of white politician dudes back in the day I can't help notice more seeing them do weird quick lick maneuvers like they're fckin reptiles and in those brief moments I get it, I get where conspiracy theorists may start believing the crazy shit, cos wow they're so sinister when they do that, why they gotta do that lol? Don't answer that, it's probably methamphetamine tbh.

Legitimately unrelated to above video, is just the only positive crumb from the whole freak address the other night that I was definitely not watching at like 4am unable to sleep or relax like an insane person.

If such mass conscription is used, the US doesn't get to claim the best military in the world.

Also, how are they going to make certain industries exempt from tariffs on raw materials? Are we going to see companies which are totally making cars reselling materials they just decided not to make cars out of?

I like that even the ones that say false go on to validate him. Like:
TRUMP CLAIM: India charges US auto tariffs higher than 100%, China's average tariffs on our products is twice what we charge them, and South Korea's average tariff is four times higher.

FACT-CHECK: False

India has historically imposed high tariffs on imported vehicles with rates as high as 125% but in a bid to improve trade relations with the U.S. they have reduced the highest rates on luxury cars from 150% to 70%. With other surcharges the tariffs still stands above 100% but the Indian government are actively reviewing their import tariffs.
I understand there's more in that line about Korea and China as well, but nobody made that fact-checker put this stuff about India in there, and if they were going to, they could say like "partially false" or something.

I also wish they had put the immigration numbers in this fact check, cause holy freaking crap, 94% drop compared to the previous 3 Februarys. People see the deportees chained up in the military planes and say "cruelty is the point", as though there are no effects downstream of those optics. 94% drop in people apprehended crossing the border. The overwhelming majority of people just stopped trying to come in illegally, which is exactly what everyone should want.

Just last week, this same game was considered woke because it had body type customization and one female character had a side shave. Now that the game is selling, it's a victory for the right and the left are allegedly seething.
These fuckheads spin whatever story/narrative to keep their dumb ass audience in line. Last I checked, most people like Monster Hunter in general, and the games were already "woke" to begin with. Especially with Monster Hunter World came onto the scene, and wasn't afraid have women of color in the cast. These fuckheads really need to know when to shut the fuck up and enjoy the game. The good news, you can point out their inconsistency and hypocrisy with all of these evidence to back it up. They're shooting themselves in the foot. These are the same assholes who bitched about Eiyuden Chronicles having a black main lead as part of the main trio, yet don't say a damn thing when her DLC just launched last week, and the game sold well. They don't say shit, because they know they have nothing to stand on at all.

This is an odd quibble. The false bit is the Korea and China bit. The explanation makes that abundantly clear.

There are other 'fact-checks' in there that are overly charitable to Trump;

TRUMP CLAIM: Elon Musk found people in the Social Security system as old as 369
FACT-CHECK: This is misleading.

That's not merely 'misleading', it's false. He found someone in that bracket with no listed death, a meaningless clerical oversight. That doesn't mean they're still 'in the system' i.e. receiving social security.

Possibly, though I thought with automakers in particular they had parts manufactured across the border and imported rather than raw materials, with final assembly done here? Which changes that dynamic a bit. So you'd get most of the way there by excluding car parts from the tariffs.

Would you consider a parent not getting their kid a flu shot to be child endangerment?

There's legit reasons to not have gotten the covid vaccine like if you're a kid or if you already had covid for example. Or the fact there was no reason to push/force covid vaccines because there was no community benefit and they lied about that ("it's a pandemic of the unvaccinated!!!"). No conspiracy theories about microchips or some shit required.

The harms of the covid vaccine actually outweigh the benefits in kids. Also, one dose for kids is enough as well, they didn't even need to be fully vaccinated.

I think that was like the 90s IIRC.

What disease isn't fatal to some percentage?

Saving more overall lives in the big picture. Shutting down society cost lives.

While that would be hilarious, just remember that it's also more bullshit to go through whenever anyone manages to FOIA it.

It was always pretty clear that Musk portraying himself as an inventor/engineer was hogwash. But I was perfectly ready to believe he just had an average working knowledge of tech for someone in an administrative or management field.

But this sort of sloppiness makes me rethink that. Along with the failure to understand how SQL works (or grasp its ubiquity), basic misunderstanding of dataset queries... he seems less tech-literate than the average office worker.

You forget, he's always paid other people to know these things. He's not an administrator, he's a car salesman.
