It honestly makes me doubt that RFK knows what autism is
You should be more certain: RFK definitely doesn't know what autism is. He has a history of talking about autism which is full of errors and misinformation that indicate his understanding is full of unsafe assumptions and prejudices.

From the way he's talking about this project and his hiring of an anti-vaxx discredited scientists to take a major role running it, what RFK Jr. looks like doing is sending the NIH to find an answer he's already decided on. When the NIH cannot get the data to prove that answer, well...

...there is a high risk the NIH will simply write up a report to claim it has sort of found the answer RFK Jr. wanted, and/or that this answer will need to be investigated further therefore the US should waste huge sums of public money trying to find out.

Holy shit! JD Vance is the goddamn angel of death.
Is that a surprise? I mean Trump hits a shocking number of antichrist prophecies. Including checking off Rev. 13:3 during the last election.

I think it's a failure of autism being redefined as a very broad spectrum in DSM-5, in addition to RFK being an idiot. Nowadays you have a lot of people on the autistic spectrum who in the past would have just been considered a little odd but not mentally ill. What he said fits a significant percentage of people that would be diagnosed as autistic today who still would have been diagnosed as autistic if it happened 40 years ago. A spectrum that includes people that are a bit odd but entirely functional at one end and profoundly mentally disabled people at the other ceases to be useful as a practical label in most contexts.

It would be like creating a "schizophrenia spectrum" where snake-handling and tongues-speaking churches are at one end and people who essentially live in an entirely different reality are on the other and then being upset when the word "schizophrenic" is used in a way that doesn't reflect the people who speak in tongues at church.

I thought to myself "Is JD Vance the sort of man who would use his position and status to pressure a severely ill man into giving up 15 minutes of his time just so Vance could feel good about having the bragging rights of getting to meet the pope?" To which I concluded "Yeah, he probably is".

'Why did you decide to have me, mommy?'
I've no problem with the state supporting families having and raising kids. But this means ongoing support for 18 years: childcare, education, income support, healthcare, etc.

$5000 for squirting one out ain't gonna cut it.

The whole "why don't you see 71 year olds with 'full blown autism' (whatever that is)" thing is kind of infuriating because I'm not the head of a governmental agency specializing in health and I know the answer.

They're dead.

Some of that is unavoidable. People with more severe forms of autism tend to have accompanying physical disabilities which impact their health. But some of it is due to factors that might be of some concern to a government health agency, like a lack of appropriate care or support, difficulty accessing healthcare and the fact that they're often highly dependent on their parents and lose a lot of support when their parents die or become too unwell to care for them any more.

The other reason is that autistic adults who can't work and are reliant on care don't have as many opportunities to go outside and socialize when compared to children. This makes them extremely prone to isolation and poor mental health, which also impacts their physical health and life expectancy.

If this twat was alive in the first world war he'd be telling you that giving soldiers helmets is a terrible idea because it makes them more likely to suffer head injuries.

Hmmm, just saw on FB someone pointing out that the moves to discourage people getting diagnosed with autism would coincide with the moves to reduce vaccines due to the claim they cause autism, and the resulting less diagnosed autism and less vaccinations being seen as evidence by some.

But it would pay for a safe hospital birth. (If you have insurance, otherwise it is by far not enough) And maybe a week or two off work for the mother.

You always tend to forget what kind of country the US is.

Wtf is it complaining about, it's just being rewarded for its support and loyalty.
I just find it funny how all these pawns, peons, and bitches of Trump never learn, or think they'll always be some grand exception different from the last person. They can all rot in hell.
