Furry Hatred?

For the uneducated, can someone tell me what a furry is? I'd make an guess that it's people who are into nekos/cat girls and sometimes hentai of the aforementioned, but I know it's more then that. Isn't it?

Nekos, the type that's just a human with cat ears and a tail is not furry.
An anthropomorphic cat-human is furry.

I think the main problem with this is the term hate.

Very few people actually hate furries, for the most part it's just a case 'hey, let's point and laugh at the weird thing' which, granted, isn't exactly pleasant behaviour but can anyone honestly say they've never been guilty of something similar.

From what I understand, furries are people who share a common interest in anthropomorphic animal characters. A lot of them draw pictures and make comics of these characters. I met one of them, and we started talking about the whole furry phenomenon, or however you'd call it. She said she just felt like she could identify with them on an emotional level. She also said that there are those who are into furry porn and whatnot. But that's to be expected. Talk to Harry Potter fans and I'm sure you will find a couple who write porn fanfics of the series.

Or I could be wrong.

Ok, that's all I wanted to know. Thank you for the explanation! In that case, I don't mind furies then.

What I showed you, the furry tiger-girl (the cat-boy wasn't furry, but thought i'd make that absolutley clear), was the mildest picture I could find. Be warned there is some VERY VERY sick "art" out there by furries that I have not seen done by any non-furry. Seriously, if you're searching the word furry, have strict safe-search on.

I recently delved into the fandom to understand it better. Ive seen alotta mixed responses. Well statistically only about 16% are plushophiles or zoophiles. The rest are people who seem to either affiliate with an animal "totem" are simply fans of anthropamorphic animals characters.

I was checking it out because a girl ive began to date is a furry, she fursuits and i thought it was a lil weird. She says she into because its fun i think she probably got into cuz she does cosplay too. I kinda think its cute i guess after her telling me her reason for it and finding out whats the majority of the fandom is about.

EDIT: A PM from a Furry would be appreciatedi have lots of questions being able to ask question directly would be awesome!
