Furry Morality Question

Absolutely disgusting. There is already a huge social inequality gap in the developed world. Something like this would only serve to widen it even further. People would be denied opportunities becuase they could not afford to purchase this serum. People would be incapable of doing as much as those who were fortunate enough to get the wealth needed to acquire it. Some people will merely use the serum to make up for their own lack of effort. Such a thing will only bring problems to our society, and thus must not be used.

I agree completely. There are many ethical concerns here, beyond the human genome. A lot of social progress would be undone because a wealthy minority would have access to this fairly dubious concoction, and the subsequent mutual disharmony would likely wreak catastrophical damage on our collective society.

On the one hand, having better vision, dexterity, and muscle strength would be awesome, and damn the naysayers.

This isn't possible. There's an actual US law preventing the creating of human-animal hybrids.

BUT.. if I could present an opinion: it would be this. Seeing as how human-animal hybrids aren't actually people, I would take it upon myself to make sure they would stay as close out to society as possible. If they fuck up the gene pool, it would be the end of us. Also, judging by all the negative reception furries get, I could easily predict lynchings; lynchings I would gladly and gleefully be a part of.

As for the furry dilemma: the definition of "furry" is the sexual exploitation or suggesting of anthropomorphic characters.

Nothing more.

I'm not sure that that law applies to things you do to yourself though...

Tails would get in the way of everything. Get caught in things, make pants difficult, and be a general pest. Tails don't exactly work that well for bipedal creatures

Um, did you even read the question? It's not difference in just appearance. These hybrids are more intelligent than you. By taking the serum they instantly become superior to you. The moral dilemma here isn't that people are becoming hybrids; it's that they are gaining a huge advantage over others in society because they had the money to buy the serum and were willing to altar their body in disturbing ways. You're letting people pay to become instantly better, denying others the same chance becuase they don't have the cash. It would drastically lengthen the already large social gap that exists in our society.

Ah but would the serum also induce the pack mentality, if so then the discrimination may vanish completely with them accepting humans as a necessity , or it may aggravate it to the point of genocide.

OT: yes, honestly yes, i work my goddam ass off all year round barely staying in the middle and then the pothead stoner who comes in one in ten days will still get higher than me.

Pack mentality would bring huge discrimination, you are in the pack or your in the way. But I think you were thinking of herb mentality, MOOO. We humans already have that to an extent. People will sit in a burning building if enough people are not panicking. I think anymore of that would make us lemmings and less of that and we would really start killing each other. As for the smart drug think. That pot head is poisoning himself for a reason. brains does not = happy.

It's a double edged sword, this kind of thing.

- On one hand, enhancing your personal abilities is certainly worthwhile to do for some people with disabilities, specifically physical and mental ones. If that's the case for use of the serum, then the furry result is a moot point because in those cases, it helped those people.

- On the other hand, you have a lot of social problems resulting from this kind of thing: Poor choices before decision-making, such as rebellious youngsters deciding 'What the hell?', reverse discrimination from the users/furrys because the serum makes them better than humans, and at worst, political upheaval/civil discourse, possibly civil war.

Personally, I would opt out of this. Being a furry might be fun if you have removable suit, but not if it is a permanent shift.

So, it's not the discrimination when you think about it. It's the loss of your humanity from this that people should be worried about.

I admit it would be cool, but seeing humans crossed with animals may not be so pleasent. It just looks unatural. Furry drawings may look cute but when it's brought over into real life, it may not be like that.

I actually kinda came up with it on the spot....you see I've been playing Borderlands alot lately and my first thought was New Haven one of the towns in the game but then I also started thinking of Heaven and the whole afterlife thing (with Heaven being preferred by most over Hell and what not)....what were you thinking when you saw my post?

No, I'm comfortable being just me. As to dealing with possible moral implications, I would be fairly uncaring after getting used to those who have decided to take the chance.

Obviously the person who uses it is going to face a lot of social problems, discrimination prominently. Honestly, I'd do it. Discrimination be damned I'd probably be smarter than all my co-workers, score one promotion for me.

I'd imagine that discrimination would lessen over time. It'd be new, different and very likely thought to be 'wrong', but if more and more people decide to take the serum, the less of a minority they'll become. Eventually it'd become common, or at least somewhat acceptable through the general public's eye.

I honestly can't say one way or the other though. Physically it's not something I find appealing, but if it betters a person's quality of life, I may seriously consider it. I suppose to what extent of a furry I'd become would affect my decision, not to mention just how much of an improvement it'd be.

But I don't quite see any moral dilemma in this question.

I have no idea, to be perfectly honest. It just struck me as something I should know from a quasi-recent game, especially since you put it in a long chain of references to Bioshock.

It just bugged me that I knew I knew it but couldn't place where from.

Yes, everyone has a right to their own sexual preferences and fetishes. I have fetishes that people think is freakish and weird, but I never mention it unless it is absolutely necissry to the conversation. Why? Because people don't want to know.

I can smell the bioshock scenario from a mile away. Plus I'm already mentally superior to everyone I know, and the only way this could work in my view is if we kill the people who sign up for it because obviously they all come from the shallow end of the gene pool.

First of all the second part has been used as a invocation to either genocide or euthanasia in almost these exact words (stating such a thing is illegal in every democratic country of the world btw) so you might wanna rephrase that. Also just out of curiosity: how do you determine 'mental superiority'?

Basically if when I talk to someone and they get genuinely confused, or if they just act like complete and utter dumb^(^%s thats when I feel mentally superior to them. Physically of course not, I spend half my time on the computer, but then again I know my way around one where they think the magical computer fairy makes the shiny things appear on the screen. (at least thats what I think is going through their heads, it only makes sense considering their behavior.)
