Wow, the title sure is misleading.

I thought the iPhone app was "futuristic" in the sense that it can actually translate text well, not that broken translation that Google Translate offers.

Oh well...

NNOOOOOO I'm currently studying to become a translator!

Well, I've no worries yet, a computer translates anything that isn't stock phrases with the subtlety of a tank in a glass-blowing workshop. Though I'm gonna be out of job in 20 years or so.

For five dollars I think it's pretty sweet. Fill in gaps if your understanding was limited for road signs and menus.

Now where are my road-legal flying cars?
What do you mean? Flying cars don't need to be road legal! They don't use roads, they fly above them :)
"Roads? Where we're going we won't need...Roads."

I probably screwed that up, but just imagine me flipping down my silvered shades and flying off in a Delorean and it'll be okay.

Maybe its cause I constnatly use google translate and dictionary translate, but I just odnt see this as the big deal it makes it out to be.

I mean, if it does something like takes a sign in three different languages and translate them all accurately to English, maybe then, but I dont see the big implications.

Then again, it is portable. Thats about the only thing I see this being used for, and thats only if you go out to other countries often enough to use it.

That is both awesome and very useful. WANT!

Although a little part of me wishes that there wasn't yet another way for English-speaking tourists to totally fail to make the effort to learn more of local languages in foreign countries.

Coworker of mine tested this (with the free demo version)

It's really cool, but there are some issues, that it won't do good with all types of fonts, and because of that reads words wrong.

But if this keeps up, we will live in the future pretty soon.

This is very Bond like. I love it.
Agreed.

I have German Pen Pals, and I have to Google translate their letters.

This might save massive amounts of time.

I keep forgetting that we reached the future three years ago.

Now all I need is one of those translating combadges/ear implants from Star Trek.

And we won't have flying cars because they're a horrible idea. Stop asking for them

while this is awesome, there is no way the grammar transfers over perfectly and for alot of real day uses the text is alot smaller/different fonts or your too far away to be able to get a good picture of it, so im curious to see how that works out..

still kudos, thats pretty cool. depending on price i might have to try that out.

Give me a Japanese to English function!

Cue me holding the thing up to the screen while I attempt to play an import game.
