I wonder how far we are from a world where, instead of browsing to find a movie/video game that you want to try, you just ask an AI to generate it for you.
Far. AI can assemble cool images, but it's still just throwing shit at the wall, and for every 1 good image you get dozens of unusable garbage ones. Something like a movie would require 24 images every second, and have all that sequence of images be consistent with each other. That's a level way beyond what any AI algorithm can do, probably for years to come.

Not an MMO fan but I'm weirdly fascinated by ambitious failures and this....yeah, this was an ambitious failure. Just him listing off the kickstarter promises made it clear this was gonna end in tears.

I do kinda feel bad for the people who dropped thousands of dollars to kickstart this and got pretty much nothing in return. OTOH, this happened pretty recently and the perils of kickstarters were well known by 2017 so everyone should be aware of the risks at this point.

Quite sure someone posted this already, but even after the amazing performance Elon Musk put on last year (and I guess his whole life), it's amazing to see just how far one can go with no morals and unlimited confidence. Never heard of Tommy Tallarico, but now to me he is the poster boy of why you should always expect the least from video game personalities. Also a great reminder that making a game is a team sport and some teammates unjustly get no credit.

It also really muddles the waters regarding a timeline for AI self-awareness. Like, how smart or dumb would it need to be to just start doing random bullshit? It really depends upon the application.

Hey science/tech people: Please keep these AI algorithms and whatnot the fuck away from things like transportation, hadron colliders, nuclear power plants/codes and other weapons defense systems.

Remember, you can't be accused of underdelivering on your promises if you never deliver.
I hate to say it but SC backers did get a game of sorts. It's in eternal buggy alpha but you can play it if you have enough Patience.

Which is more then showing off the 0.5 something pre alpha to the highest paid backers (the guys who paid to be kings in game and shit) and that was it before the "we ran out of money. There will be no refunds. Blame COVID for our 4 years of inability to finish this project in any way" announcement in 2020.

The idiot promised or implied a promise regardless of what he said. Most of the audiences expecting something, but they're too prideful, gullible, or dumb enough to believe everything that comes out of the creator's mouth. They assume too much.

I was just looking forward for Squadron 42 , tbh.
Same. At least there are some other combat flight sims out there, even if none of them are wing commander but with modern tech.

Fucking time travelling virus.
Yeah, it's wierd how they started in 2017 but COVID apparently forced the project to shut down and not their crippling inability focus on getting a game out. I get 9 million isn't a ton of money to develop an MMO with and even a regular videogame would have that as a bit of a tight budget depending but the scope of what they promised and the resouces they had were nowhere close to each other

Dude using AI to make 'stills' of non-existent video game movies
This A.I. shit reaches new heights of uncanniness that I find fucking fascinating. There's an otherwordliness to these, at face value, very normal images that's almost scary and disturbing.

Guess that's cuz AI algorithms are trained using massive amounts of data, but don't actually understand any of it, so they make all kinds of small (or not so small) mistakes that the human eye will subconsciously pick up on.

I imagine you'll eventually have multiple ai working in team, with some editor ai rejecting all the shit. My uneducated guess would be about 30 years.
